A lets take the opinion of a biased online review, nothing worse than the opinion of somebody that knows nothing.

One big reason for the lack of testdrives for all is simply that with a stock of 3 or 4 thouand cars you have no room for joyride junkies that you get at most other dealerships.

It is simply a policy bourne out of necessity.

Or do you think it might not be a bit time consuming and costly to give every casual viewer a test drive, actually try and get a test drive at any dealer, it isn't as easy these days as some think.

Plus the cost of the testdrives would have to be added to the car prices, that isn't very MSE now is it!

Oh right so we should all buy car without checking there condition :rotfl: How very Un MSE.
No wonder you get loads of abuse for advertisement service.

    Predictable.

Yawn..... just more CG promotion as usual.

Oh and as far as " Why, EXACTLY, is a privately owned car better than one maintained under a full maintenance lease deal. " goes.

Erm ...it may be something related to a financial interest by the owner.

There is no financial interest in a car that they intend to trade in soon, they will spend nothing on it if they can avoid doing so.
A fleet that has a full maintenance deal will make sure the car is tip top, purely due to the simle fact they have already paid for the maintenance and they want to make sure they get full value for their leasing costs.

You regularly see exfleet car at CG and auction that where serviced a few weeks before disposal, this is something that is very rare in a privately owned car, most private owners are happy to trade a car in with nearly bald tyres, worn out brakes and due a service.

However such knowledge is only obtained with years of experience buying cars within and outside if the car trade.

Surely you understand such a simple concept?

    Actually it appears you don't.

When you consider the simple numbers a dealer that sells as many cars as CarGaint is going to deal with more than its fair share of knobs

When you have bought and sold as many cars as I have, do feel free to come back and comment.;)

You really should read rather than comment, as you just make yourself look stupid.

Where did I say you should buy without a testdrive?

Exactly, I didn't, you made that up all on your own.

I was talking about the testdrive policy, and it is organised in the way it is due to the numbers of people that turn up to kick tyres in a dealership that stocks three or four thousand cars at a time.

You can testdrive a car, but only if you are a serious buyer.

Why not go to a any large dealer and try to get a testdrive, it is a lot harder than you may think at a large dealership.

It may be easier during a quiet period, the only issue is that due to the sheer footfall at CG there is no quiet time, it is always busy.

Nobody that I know that has bought at CG was refused or didn't testdrive their care before singing a deal, though you do have to provide yout driving licence, and I don't think they would let anbody drive the Ferraris.

Where do you recommend for reasonably priced used cars?

Nobody else has come up with an alternative.

Several hundred if not nearer a thousand for me over the years. how about you.

I have never actually heard you mention what car you actually own.

How do we know you are not just a school boy passing the time?

    No more than you do.;)

Another one sentence post. How unusual for you, not.

Why aren't you on the golf course, aren't you retired on £50k a year, surprised somebody as rich as you say you are has time to post on here, actually why is somebody as rich as you say you are even posting on MSE?

Oh, look, gandalf and Inactive are thanking each other again, why is it they tend to be online at the same time?

    And always thank each other?

Mmmm, what could the answer be?

Well they start at £3999 in autotrader now, based on that spec.

Go and buy one then that is pretty cheap, you won't get the wifes for that price, though I suspect that the ones at that price are a bit on the ropey side, the wifes' is still minty, mint condition. And even with the wifes high mileage use it is still only an average mileage car, not bad though, 26k with nothing but consumables, don't you think?

Wonder if the ones you have seen where bought at a main dealer by the previous owner, imagine that they could have halved in value in 16 months. Say £7500, now up for £3999, ouch.

Actually losing £1790 on the price you paid a dealer 16 months earlier is actually not bad deal, thanks for proving that we really got an excelltent deal back in 2009. Not bad really, £5790 to £3999 is much better than £7500 to £3999.

Though since ours is worth much more than that the figures are not much good for comparison.

Wouldn't sell ours for a penny under £4500, would actually want a bit more than that especially after the recent partex offer.

But thanks for proving that CarGiant do indeed sell very well priced cars. If you are willing to remove the blinkers, some on here could do with doing just that.

Found this one which has only a few thousand miles less, and ours has a £300 cd player in it, not a hole and some wires.
    http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201111381942072/sort/priceasc/usedcars/maximum-mileage/up_to_60000_miles/maximum-age/up_to_5_years_old/quantity-of-doors/5/engine-size-cars/1-4l_to_1-6l/transmission/manual/fuel-type/diesel/body-type/hatchback/model/clio/make/renault/postcode/rm191lh/radius/200/page/1?logcode=p

So, this identical car is now up for £5299, without a stereo/cd player. Still think the £5699+£91 is such a bad deal, I think it looks better every day.

I did a 200 mile search from London, not sure where youfound the one at £3999, though I did see one for around £4500 but that was a previous generation model that they sold as a Campus model, and another one under £5000 but was in a horid red colour.

Thanks for proving the wifes car was well priced and a bargain, I never thought about checking up on Autotrader to confirm the current value.
