Why some people think CarGiant are overpriced rubbish

I've never been to Car Giant but buying a car new or second hand is, for most people, a significant and long term purchase and to expect to shell out several thousands and to be told that it isn't convenient to have a test drive and if I did then all the test drive costs would have to be added to the bill does not exactly endear me to going to them for the first time.
Doesn't mention that on the web site!
Mind you I can't find the £91 "buying a car from us" fee either.
I've used our local car supermarkets, all seem reasonable for price, all offer any test drive, and all have fixed any little niggle with no problems. And none of them make you pay a fee to buy from them.0 -
Got a source for this information? I just don't believe it. Even Arnold Clark don't get ex-hire stuff direct from companies but instead from the remarketer before they go up for sale.
Yes, it is called research, and knowing when to ask the right question at the right time to the correct person.
Though it may be easier to just say that this has been common knowledge to those in the know for years.
You do understand the number of cars I have seen down there and have bought many myself.
The one disappointment is that the sales people are now apparerntly paid a commission, they used to just be salaried like they are in BestBuy, this is a negative, but then again well paid staff are happy staff.
But then who actually listens to a word the salesman says anyway, i don't, never have.
Lets put CG into context, I did print this up before but there are do's and don'ts at CG, you don't buy a trade-in, you stick to one owner ex fleet cars with a FSH and a print out. This means you are only buying from the best stock wich has come straight from the Fleet company. Don't fixate on mileage, go more for condition.
I am just glad you lot didn't go down there a few years ago, as then you had to pay £100 deposit to be allowed to test drive a car.
Aain this was understandable in a sense, do you want your staff selling cars or taking dreamers for a test drive.
Having read some of the rubbish spouted on various forums about people like CarGiant that have been linked to on the forum I have a feeling there are still plenty of people that go and test drive a car without any intention of buying.
If you want a free coffee and a test drive then go to a main dealer, just be prepared to pay the extra.
Just checking, this is still MSE.com, not free testdrives are fun.com.0 -

The way I see it is is best to work your stress out, I find winding up imbeciles on internet forums work out fine for stress relief.
The reason I have lasted so long is i can do my job, a job that has a habit of breaking people physically and mentally in only a few years.
Unlike self serving people like you I was prepared to put my life and health on the line to help others.
What thanks to we get, people like you that know nothing voicing opinions that they have obtained from reading the news and reading the tabloids, jumping on the band wagon of public sector pensions.
When I mentioned ill health retirement you said I was abusiing them, really!
Actually you will find that when you retire on a Tier 1 Ill Health Retirement, such as i will be doing this year or next, youretire on the grounds that you can no longer do your own job.
You then retire with the entitlement to pension that you HAVE PAID FOR up to that time, in my case 20 years is what I have paid for from my wages.
So where exactly do you get my abuse of the public sector pension from?
It contains life insurance aswell, if a member of the NHS Pension was to die would you consider the death benefits the family gets to be an abuse of the public sector pensions?
Don't be shy now, try and answer questions not just try to divert from the fact you have no answer.0 -

No, I can confirm you don't have to pay for a test drive anymore, you did about ten years ago though.
If you look at every car on there you will see clearly written next to every price is the admin fee of £91.
Seriously how clear can you make it.
Don't forget this is payment for the forms that get filled in and sent off, such as the logbook, and for a HPI check.
Every garage does these things, every garage charges for these things, they just don't put it on the invoice.0 -
Yes, a £70k Jaguar will be identical wherever you buy it.
A sub-£20k Jaguar that has been hammered by a fleet will vary wildly in how it is knackered (note how, not if)
If you had looked through the thread a bit better befiore posting you would have realised that I was referring to the mileage, the big give away is that there was no £ sign and both cars I am using as an example have about 70k on the clock.
I will try and make it more obvious in future.
I hate to say but a Jaguar XF isn't given to the window cleaner, it will be used by the same bloke that usually has the Jaguar XF, the MD or other senior boss, these people tend not to hammer cars so your point loses a bit of its strength on that point.
However the biggest dent to your point is the simple fact that you have only partly understood the point I was making in that post.0 -

Then you should learn to live on less then shouldn't you.
I couldn't live being like you, but you are off course allowed to do so.
But one thing you will never do is experience what I have done, ever met a baby you delivered in a hallway 5 years later when you went back to the same house and then only realised when themum recognised you?
Ever been thanked by the family of the 25 yr old girl you have saved and got to hospital stable enough for the Dr's to be able to take her to the cath lab within the hour to sort out her infarct. Then a year later the family and the girl involved want to meet you and they are the nicest family you could ever want to meet?
I somehow think not.
When somebody comes on here and offers genuine advice that has been valuable to them and many of their friends you chuck it back in their face saying they must be on a commission or I want to work there.
What does that say about you, and what does it say about me.
I want to help, why not, without a little help where would the world be?
If you thought about anybody but yourself for a change maybe things in the UK would be better. But the UK is being consumed by selfishness and entitlement issues.
I am happy to take my 20 yr pension, but i will have to fight for it, somethig that is mine, but yes I wil have to fight for it. Why? So the government can appease people with the same view as you.
There are indeed people taking the !!!! out of public sector pensions, but if your pension is more than I make i a year then I suggest that you may be the one that is taking the !!!! out of the pension system.
My mum was a Director of the Scottish Health Board before Trusts where started, she has 42 years service and her pension is a lot less than I take home. Don't forget she was a director when she retired and had completed enough to maximise her pension.
How can you be on more than me unless you actually had one of these golden deal local authority pensions....
Either that or you where one of those blokes that was milking the council and making over £100k a year changing street light bulbs, actualy if you are now retired you are about the right age, so is that what you used to do?0 -

What Police Service has the Jaguar XF then?
BMW's, Volvo's, Range Rovers can all be seen in abundance, the only Jag XF I have seen in Police colours was a demo car, but they probably didn't buy it due to the reaction they would get from people like you..
We wanted the Jaguar X type estate in London, or at least we put it forward as a suggestion, but they thought it too fancy for our use.
The fact they were cheaper than almost everything else and britsh made no difference.
I would be happy if the Police had Jaguar XF's.
You do realise that most Police Forces actually use 3 series don't you, well they do in the developed south of the country.
However I am waiting with baited breath for one of your posts to make sense.0 -
Apologies, I misinterpreted your post. As you were.:D
FYI Central Scotland Police have an unmarked XF or two.0 -

Oh I forgot the £91 for allowing us to flog you a car.
So no test drive, no discount, no warranty ....not looking very good value now.
MSE isn't about buying the cheapest, it is about value for money, a big difference.0 -
At every price point there is a best deal and best outlet. If I were spending £5000 then Cargiant would be in the frame. If I were spending £25000 then they would not.0
