that stuffs next door to lethal if they are selling this without safety warnings they are in deep doo doo. It looks as if it should only be used with a respirator.

    That's what I thought.

If it were me using it, just going by what is on the can, I'd just open the windows and spray away too and I'm a sucker for reading leaflets!

I did notice when I googled Harveys and fabric spray, a link did come up, but when I clicked on it, it says item or page no longer available.
Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...
  • Hi,

I think the people affected should be contacting the national press. Just think how many more people have been fobbed off with a product recall and getting a voucher, when god knows what long term damage this product could do. Also if this chemical killed a puppy, how long before a human possible someone with a respitory problem already gets affected by it. Really this needs to be more widely known about. I googled Harveys spray and nothing other than harveys website come up. People need to be warned and not by the company that sold them the product cos they will obvoiusly just try to cover their asses.

my cousin used to work for Harveys and left because of their not so honest policies.

When I was looking for a sofa just before Christmas I saw one on the Harveys website that I liked and I asked for his advice. He warned me to go and look at it in the shop and not to buy it online because the ones they put on the website are usually the lower quality ones. He also warned me not to buy the protection spray he called it "lethal" (I didn't question him at the time I just thought he meant is stunk or something I never dreamed it really could be dangerous), so it would seem that they have known about this for a while :(
  • We too bought a suite from Harveys. Having sprayed the furniture before going to bed {on advice of the salesperson}. The smell went right through the house. My husband developed breathing problems and I had to call 999 for help. He was admitted to hospital where he stayed for 2 nights. On returning home he still wasn't well and I had to phone 999 on two more occasions over the next couple of days. Myself, son and grandson also developed flu like problems with sore throat and severe cough. We had the phone call, followed by a letter to return the cans for a refund. I agree that why should they be recalling the spray cans if they were not dangerous. We will be seeking advice on this matter.

There is no mention on the tin of wearing a mask or resprator, it just says gloves and goggles - one of the biggest issues seems to be from breathing the spray and yet there is no mention of wearing a face mask. The website of MckLords says in BOLD that a mask or respirator must be worn at all times and the spraying should be outside.

    Hi All

I too bought the care kit and me and my daughter where both very ill after applying it..(all intructions followed) and i was off work sick for a while.
Harveys rang me a few weeks ago and after they asked "did you feel unwell?" was then followed by"did you take time off work?"which implies they are expecting some sort of injury claim against them, so as in other replies...DO NOT RETURN THE CANS!.
I have also received a letter this morning which repeats their pathetic offer of a refund and free "care kit" which ironically i have to go and pickup from the store in my OWN TIME!...Unbelievable!
If there is any Solicotors who are willing to take this on,please get in touch.

Irrespective of any compensation that people affected may receive, surely the most important thing is to get word of this out to stop people who have already bought the spray from using it.

I would suggest that anyone affected report the story to Watchdog (http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/gotastory/), including a link to this thread and any other information available online.
  • Hi, following a visit to citizens advice bureau about harveys protector spray, we were advised to reccommend letting all known affected to contact consumer direct telephone 08454040506. They have a website but it wont let me post the link. Have been in contact myself and they are taking it to trading standards, and have been told they will be in contact by Monday evening. Please everyone get in touch they were most helpful, perhaps then we can find a way forward together. They reccommended a letter to Harveys under the sales of goods ammended1979 act. Obviously there are problems with the product so it is not fit for purpose.
