Just found this thread.

It certainly wouldn't be the first time that this sort of chemical (which I am presuming is a solvent based fluorocarbon water and oil repellent) has caused the loss of life in family pets and also severe health effects in humans exposed to them.

Have you established the type of chemical which has caused this? If it is definitely fluorocarbon based there is quite a lot of literature relating to the dangers they pose.

did anything ever come from this?
For the record, despite contacting harveys (a lot!) we didn't ever hear back. Their store staff pleaded ignorance when I mentioned it and in the end we got our proper sofa.

Had it over a year now - no issues, so nothing more from us - but based on what I read and my experience with the delivery etc, I won't be using them or any of their other companies again.
