Won't that mean the comp will just sink down the board with no reminder to enter it each month unless it's bumped? If I've misunderstood, please accept my apologies, just trying to be clear....
Yes, you are right. For more detail see post #107 starting with "Consider the life cycle of a comp like this...".0 -
I remember that post, it was very useful in offering a solution to losing comps to game over and showing what happens with different display/search methods.

Hi
I've closed the poll
I'm out for the evening but to briefly answer some of the above comments, yes it was agreed that all comps with end dates were to be posted on main board BUT what can't be agreed on is how you define an end date of a comp ie wether it ends with each change of prize/question etc
so if we could agree that an ongoing comp is a promotion that runs regularly with no overall end date regardless of change of prize/question then the question would be where do you want these comps posted
and do you want monthlies treated differently?
sorry to be quick but tomorrow I'll try again to give options with explanations and won't post a poll until we've discussed and tweaked themI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I personally believe that if a new prize is to given then it's a new competition. A different prize could make people want to enter this week/month where as previously they hadn't. So with this suggestion you'd have to look at every "regular" competition to check.
Doesn't seem simple or good for all to me:o0 -

 I agree with this definition
However, if the consensus of opinion insists that it's actually ongoing, then I'd opt for ongoings on the main board simply to stop the arguments when contentious comps are posted wherever others object to them being.

Glad I really think you could/should just do a "is this a regular" Y/N poll based on a few different comp types.....how One-Eye suggested, how I suggested, somewhere in between or something totally different, whatever. I honestly believe we'll get nowhere discussing it because the 2 opinions are so polar. Better to just get majority verdict and go with it than let us bicker when the best/only way to truly sort it is a poll. Just my humble opinion though
Also Glad, if the poll is obsolete now could you possibly unsticky it and resticky this thread for however long the discussion remains open for please0 -
If we are going to have another poll i would suggest do you think we need the weekly/monthly regular competition threads?
If the answer is yes, then we should run the what makes a competition a regular competition?
If the answer is no, then we know where we stand.0 -
I personally think that is 2 polls.
1) do you think we need the monthly competition threads
2) do you think we need the weekly competition threads
because I have seen people say they are OK getting rid of monthlies but not weeklies
Also, I still think even if those are voted no then regular needs defining/clarifying re: dailies. Something like the ipad every hour comp that ran for a week is a case in point, it was posted as a new thread every day (I think, defo was for first few days) as there was a new link.....but prize was the same.....other "daily" comps where the prize/link/answer changes each day are posted as ongoing threads. What do people want?
If people don't want ongoing threads for weeklies/monthlies why do they think it is OK for dailies? To me it's easier to check a sticky (or bookmark) once a month/week than once a day.
I am honestly very happy to have it explained to me. Really. I'm newer than a lot of you and could be missing something obvious (that isn't unusual). I'm OK with almost anything as long as I know what I'm doing and why. And I'm not as bad to talk to as my formality makes me appear, promise0 -

For me, i think we need the dailies because if we get rid of that thread, then we really will have bumped and re posted comps not only clogging up the board but making a lot of extra work for posters.
With the comps like the Times enter every hour, i think they need to be on the main board, because when they are bumped it reminds people to enter them, rather than remembering to go and search for them.
Obviously, the weekly comps would mean extra comps, but spread over 7 days wouldnt, in my opinion, make a massive difference. I think the same about the monthlies, it would make the board busier on the first of the month, but looking through them there are loads that people would skim through due to them being address related or tickets and some could/would be posted during the month. I remember lots of them that i used to enter via the main board in the past that i dont enter now as they are only on the monthly board. I also noticed a fair few newsletter ones - which is where i struggle with them being posted or being on the monthly thread as surely once you sign up you are in the draw?
If people do want the monthly and weekly boards then that is fine, we then sort out what is it that makes a competition a regular, which is a whole new can of worms!0 -
Thinking about it, if we did adopt One-Eyes E: 99/99 for monthly/weekly comps a weekly/monthly bump would save time for posters, add a answer if there is a new question each time (some do) and we can use the thanks button to track entries as there is only one enter button.0
