help me out here please
it seems to me some people haven't understood the guideline posted in the poll, as it stands the YES vote is winning, as this stands all regulary run comps with no overall end date would have to be posted on the regs board in an ongoing thread updated with any change to question/answer/link, so a change to the comp would not mean it could be posted on the main board as a new thread with new end date, so some comps you are used to seeing on mains would be moved
48 people have so far voted YES and I wouldn't like to think they voted without understanding
also a lot more people have posted with ideas since the poll has started
had I read these opinions last week I may have posted a different poll
would it be better to have a poll with the following options?
1. mamzies guideline - all comps with regular entry and no overall end date posted on regs, only regular entry comps that have a promotion end date on main board
2. dailies and weeklies as above (with an option to look at weeklies after a trial period) and reg monthlies posted each month on main board
3. any comp that has a regular entry on regs, main board only for one off, one entry comps
the poll could then be re run with the 2 most popular options
I've written this quickly but hope everyone understands the brief explanations of the 3 options (I'd spell them out in an actual poll if this is what you want)
what I need is people to take the time to post here and tell me what they want
PS it's not for the BGs to decide the rules for a board like this, it's for you compers who use it every day, even 4 BGs could have different ideas
BGs are only expected by MSE to keep the board running smoothly ie merging/moving, I just choose to join the discussions and be proactive as I have plenty of spare timeI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. Thanks Glad.
I'll get the ball rolling on comments for you. Hopefully more will join in this time so any new poll is better received
Maybe also give an option of something along the lines of One-Eyes E: 99/99 on main for ongoing regulars which would (perhaps) be middleground? Everything on main so main board compers don't lose out but regularly updated threads that are suitable for stickies so sticky users don't either? Only a maybe up to you/anyone else that replies to your question. Especially as that would give you 4 options so you may have to run 3 polls so you can get down to a choice between 2 if results are tight?
Definitely would do what you say and make clear what each option you decide on means. Maybe give examples of what comps would go where and/or maybe get people on here to give you a few pros and cons for any options? Again, just a suggestion.
My only negative comment here (very sorry) - unless I'm being thick/tired (probably lol) there's still the same old worry for me that with any of those options we can still disagree over whether new answer (etc.) means new thread each d/w/m or new post in an ongoing thread (on whichever board) each d/w/m. From comments yesterday & today aswell as longer ago it seems very clear that there are still 2 totally different ways of looking at it and perhaps we should try to agree (or otherwise agree to quietly disagree) on that too? Otherwise that may still cause friction IMHO.
Sorry for repeating anything I've said before. Hard not to really
Also sorry if anything above offends anyone, if you think I'm outspoken or you think I think I'm speaking on behalf of anyone else (which I seriously don't).0 -
Definitely would do what you say and make clear what each option you decide on means. Maybe give examples of what comps would go where.
Examples are good - people really see the implications when you give examples. It also gave me an idea for a different approach - not fully formed but I'll put it out there:-
All rules (and the terminology in them) are abstract – (A few/some/many/most/nearly all) people do not understand them or realise the implications of them, and they don’t have the time or inclination to follow the discussion.
What people really know well and can relate to are the competitions they enter. Maybe coming at it directly from their favourite competitions is a better approach.
If we were to (carefully and by agreement) pick a few popular competitions typical of each different type we could ask directly where/how would you like to see this competition posted.
We could then write the rules around their opinions.0 -

I really think that would work personally. I think that's along the same lines of what I was suggesting here although maybe worded better than I managed?0 -
My problem with all of this is you are trying to write rules for the hundreds, if not thousands of people who use the competition board based on the results of polls that only a small fraction of people are voting on. Im sure most compers have not even read this thread, or realise there is a poll going on that would effect them all. Changes have obviously been happening since Glad started moving things and i must admit, that i hadnt noticed what had happened until people started getting upset, i just thought the competitions that had disapeared were no longer!
I, as an active member had voted on the poll when it was first put up - i voted yes but as i have just read Glads post this morning, i now feel a definate NO, and im sure ive read at least one other person saying they are now a no after realising what the poll was asking.
So far 81 people have voted, and 2 maybe more wish they had voted differently. How can that be democratic. Someone else also asked how we could get more people to vote, and i dont think we can - these polls are confusing, and like ive said before, people just want to come and enter competitions.
From the previous poll, its clear to me that people want as many comps on the main board as possible, as i would bet that most people only use the main board, and rarely if ever stray to the regular board. Am i wrong, but wasnt the result that all comps with an end date to be on the main board?
If we are asking for poll suggestions, my preference is to get rid of the Weekly and Monthly stickies, and replace them with Newsletter comps and No End Date comps. Daily comps would stay as it is.
This way all competitions with an end date would be on the main board, which from the last poll is what the majority wanted, we do away with the 'what is a regular comp' question and we arnt going to have the problem of competitions that are now on the main board disapearing to the regulars, where (and this is my opinion, i have no way of knowing) the majority of compers are going to start missing them.
I still think that the BGs should sort this out - there are too many different people on this board with too many different ideas, but surely simplifing everything would be a better idea than making it more complicated.0 -
All End Date comps are on the main board already CC, the only comps on the Reg forum atm are Ongoing comps.
When we were discussing things, we had come up with the 2 main alternatives for Ongoing comps as;2a) Ongoing Competitions - These are competitions with no apparent Promotion End date, but which hold a regular d/w/m competition, they may require repeat d/w/m entries, or can be a one time only sign up. These competitions are to be posted in the Reg Sub Forum - State “Daily/Weekly/Monthly prize/entry” in the thread title. New posts can be added to the thread for new questions/answers/links. Please update the relevant Daily/Weekly/Monthly Sticky thread in Regular Sub-Board with a link to the Thread, and competition info.

2b) Ongoing Competitions – These are competitions with no apparent Promotion End date, but which hold a regular d/w/m competition, they may require repeat d/w/m entries, or can be a one time only sign up. These are posted as E: 99/99 (Ongoing) on the Main Board, instead of a normal or guessed end date. This will enable them to be found via the forum display options or by running a search. Please update the relevant Daily/Weekly/Monthly Sticky thread in Regular Sub-Board with a link to the Thread, and competition info..
But I do agree with Comping Cat, and others, that in fact, as you have followed the debate so closely, then I would be very happy if you in conjunction with the other BGs just said, these are the guidelines, here you go.My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

In fear of being sniped I will make direct points.
People will want the boards to benefit the greatest way of supporting their own comping styles. (For example Regs board = fasterfor snaplinks , Vs Main board = end date comping)
I think the poll should be redone. In Laymans terms. The question needs to be simple.
There will be no universal agreement, and this debate will always produce discourse.
I am in favour of the ideas listed within this thread from Glad & CC , similar to Andreas (To move all comps to main - with the exception of daily sticky which IMHO is essential)
More people have to opportunity to post, be involved and give something back to the board.Wishing you all good luck!

Good Idea emiai, Thats another option I could live with, just all dailies on Regs, as they just keep getting i my way when I'm snaplinking, and theres soooo many of them.My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

 Just a quick two penn'orth from me to show I'm still listening... :rotfl:!
I too agree that we need a much clearer poll, perhaps with an explanation attached. I was confused by the implications of the options and it seems it wasn't just me....Oh, and can't we just agree that we see things differently?
The "All weekly / monthies in separate threads on main" (link to a sticky if people desperately want to keep them,) "Daillies in updated (Only if new question, change etc) threads on main with a link to a sticky" (think this one needs to stay,) approach would simplify it all & can easily be adapted whatever your style of comping.
This is pretty much what happened before, but with the rules being clearer, the kerfuffle that ensued before when comps were moved from main to regs wouldn't happen. (Sorry for repeating myself!)
 Other than that, I will add no more as I've said it before and don't want to nag :rotfl:!Worse things will have happened in the world today..."The only thing that really matters, it to love and to be loved."0
