I'm not sure how to interpret this, The way I at first glance last night read this was only people that have been posting loads on these discussions are allowed to post here?
I thought the whole point of this thread was to get as many view points across concerning what constitues a reg.
I'm hoping I read it wrong as it gave me an uncomfortable feeling, and yes Al's post did too he was way too blunt and could have rephrased what he wrote a bit more tactfully.
If this is a closed discussion between a few please say.
hi toniq, sorry, i can't help how you read/interpret things,
Glad said she was 'bowing' out as had been upset by Al's post,
Glad has been a godsend on the comps board, never complains, always moves the merges when i send her loads & presumingly
everyone else's, plus all the other things that need doing, I for one would never want her to 'bow' out by being upsetplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -

. They're all ones I have in my own favourites folder to enter each month, so I think they're "Good." Much more time-consuming to post them according to the new guidelines now tho', so would be delighted if all weekly / monthlies could be posted on main with the appropriate end date.
Glad actually suggested this way back when this was discussed before and it's pretty much ( a few exceptions, and inconsistencies:rotfl:!) what happened in the past, or the "Way it was before!" that many folk seem keen to return to.
Can see a lot of folk going along with it as a) it's simple & b) all compers could easily adapt to it.
All we need is a rule to say it's allowed to iron out those inconsistencies and we're done & dusted here :j.
Or am I over-simplifying things....?
ETA - No ignoring any replies... work
Ive been on MSE comping for about 4 1/2 years now, and what used to happen was the begining of the week, and begining of the month always used to be the busiest time, with all the comps that would be posted. They WERE NOT linked to the regular thread, just a post with a link to the comp, like all other comps on the main board.
I had noticed a lot less comps on the main board, but as i know some companies did stop their competitions (such as CITV) i just assumed that there were just less comps - i also got Roboform, so thought along with faster broadband i was now faster at entering competitions.
I have used the daily competition sticky for a couple of years, but have only very occasionally dipped my toe into the weekly and monthly stickies. The reason being, i found them time consuming and often expired or one entry only, and not wanting to rock the boat, didnt say anything (and not knowing who to say anything to). I have always thought it strange that a newsletter comp, or an enter once and you are in all draws should be on a regular thread, but as i said, i didnt use the thread like some people do so it didnt effect me.
Now these discussions are happening, and as i said in my previous posts, ive now seen that quite a few of the old comps that used to be posted on the main board are now on the regular board - i have no idea when this happened or why.
In my opinion, i would get rid of the weekly and monthly boards and replace them with a No End Date and maybe even a Newsletter/Enter Once and you are in all future draws sign up thread/sticky instead, with the daily sticky staying as it is.
However, i know not everyone will agree with me, so like i said yesterday and today - i would like all 4 BGs to decide what they think they can cope and work with, as they are the ones who have to sort anything and everything out. When they have had chance to communicate (i appriciate that is tricky for them as im sure they have real lives too and will probably have to do it all by PM) they can give us some rules and we can stick to them. Im sure Velvet Glove will be able to add it to their excellent guide for all to see.0 -
What is the main purpose of the comps board?
1. To help as many people as possible win as many prizes as possible as easily as possible?
2. To make life easy for posters?
3. To make life easy for Board Guides?
4. To make life easy for "sticky maintainers"?
I assumed it was 1 (but perhaps we should have a poll)
As this all started because posts were being removed from the main board, any proposal that does this should be carefully considered against the main purpose of the board.0 -
I don't use them, but believe a lot of people do and I understand that lot of effort is expended in maintaining them.
But what do they do that could not be achieved by the use of appropriate tags and forum search?0 -
actually I feel this started because we had such a long break between Kipper and Glad. Kipper was very active in moving and merging comps lots, so is Glad. But when she started moving comps to Regs, then she was questioned, and instead of a freq MSE BG (not just comps BGs) response of "this is how the board runs...", Glad said "lets talk about it"....
No offence to the other BGs, but Glad is very hands on, and often reminds me of Kipper because of that.
Edited to add - Stickys save a lot of timeesp the Daily one which is the main one I use. I very rarely use the search, but am willing to use Tags to help other compers. I just wish that the Reg tag was used when a link to a reg comp is posted, as I don't hover over threads, I snaplink.
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

Kipper was very active on this board - posting as well as running the board. She was the first MSEr to achieve 1 million thanks - however (and please, this is not a dig at Glad) she was not running the regulars board like Glad started to do, this is why people became upset and confussed.
Also, i have no idea what a tag is, or snaplink and im sure the majority on here dont as well (im sorry if im wrong), so any changes have to be simple, for simple people like me
Of course i am assuming (and i could be wrong) that the majority of compers are like me, we see a post, if the title is something we want to win we open it and enter, which is why i like people to put FB, Twitter, Email or Blog in the title, to save me opening that post.0 -
Snaplinks/multilinks are an add on you can get for FireFox and really help speed up comping. Instead of selecting and clicking on each individual thread to open them - you can right click and highlight lots of threads, which then automatically snap into a tab for each one.
A tag is just a word added to the title to help people search /select which threads to open eg, FB, Daily, Kids, etc...My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

Thank you - would anyone mind if i start posting for people to add the tag 'blog' to their posts?, ive mentioned it quite a few times now, but people are still not doing it and i dont want to overstep the mark and start doing something people dont want. If no one tells me not to, i think i might start today0 -
I would wait before bumping until a BG decides for sure that Tags will be mentioned in the suggested Guidelines. I have mentioned some suggestions of tags which have come up freq. Some Title Tag Sugestions
We all want to be able to enter competitions easily and quickly, however we do need to co-operate and help each other to be able to do this. These are a selection of Title Tags that members have found useful in the past. You will not need to use every tag in every title, just which ever ones work best for your competition.
a) Please mention Kids, photos/purchase required, effort, email, newsletter sign up, etc in title if entry requires these. Occasionally a competition may have specific entry requirements ie 10-14 year olds, teens, 21+, etc, please ensure that these are mentioned if necessary.
b) Please mention FB, Twitter, Blog in the title, when a competition depends on these sites for entry.
c) Please remember to add Daily, Weekly or Monthly in the title when posting a competition with multiple prizes or entries. Please remember to update the relevant Regular Sticky Thread in the Regular Sub FormMy light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

Sorry to but in, but I am really confused with all this, have tried to read back but lost the plot.
Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought comps with end dates were posted on the main board and if they were d/w/m they were linked to the relivent sticky. Only comps that didn't have an end date would be posted in the regs board??
I don't think having everything on 1 board would be a good idea, that would mean posting the sugarscapes everyday as a new thread, it works well the way it is so why change it??
Sorry but this is all very confusing, and I am sure I am not alone in feeling this way.Think it's about time the comping fairy remembered where I am! lol0
