New Comps Board Guidelines Discussion

I rather wish people had been more vocal earlier in the thread, but it did run for over a week and when posting the poll I went on the postings already here
Walwin - I'll hold my hands up here
this originally started because some members asked months ago (and had asked before) why similar comps were posted in different ways ie some ongoing comps were posted on the regs board and others were posted on mains with an end date each week/month
reading this I looked at what the regs board contained and moved any similar comps from mains over to the regs, I used the stickies as a guide, in my eyes if links were in one one of the stickies they were regular comps, in y defence I'll say that no one gave me a rule book when I started as BG, I just had the compers guide and board descriptions to go on, and no one 'official' told me I was getting it wrong. What did happen is that main boards compers complained about comps being moved to the regs board that had 'always' been on mains. So I started a discussion to see what people actually wanted, to put to the team as a proposal, lot's of arguing started and I asked MSEAndrea to help sort it out. Her 1st poll established that regular comps with a promotion end date would be posted on the main board, but there was still confusion on how people interpret an end date, so in a way we went back to square one, some comps being posted in regs as ongoing and others posted on mains with and end date each week/month (even though they were comps run regularly and ongoing). Where problems arise is when an OP decides which board they want the comp on and the thread then turns into an argument of 'this should be on mains not in regs/this should be on regs not in mains'
In the interests of trying a simple solution first I've done a poll with a guideline written by a comper and asked for a yes or no answer, if it's 'no' then I hope the people voting against will join the discussion and we can come to some compromise
there is also some confusion over what comps will be affected, probably this will be somewhere in between how One-Eye and Mamzie have interpreted it, the guideline mentions the 'promotion', so if a site runs a promotion regularly (that is a regular entry date each d/w/m) and has no overall end date in t&c's then it would be classed as suitable for the regs board, if the promo is running d/w/m until a certain date then it would go on mains
anything that has an irregular entry date/end date/entry method will be on mains (looking at some of the posts above ITV comps, sci fi comps, mags etc would be examples of this)
answering people asking why don't the BGs just write the rules - well that sounds nice and easybut we'd still want your opinions and if we didn't agree who then do we pass the buck to?
If the guideline in the poll is agreed to BGs will have a rule to point people to if they complain about moves and that will definitely make things easier for us
for most compers it's going to be win some, lose some
Main board compers will gain all reg comps that have an end date but lose a few 'popular' ongoing comps to the regs board, and that would be a good time for another discussion on 'easy and effectiveways to use the regs board and it's stickes)
Regs board users will have lost the reg comps with end dates but will get to keep their board and it's stickies
the OPs who maintain the stickies will have an easier life as they will only have to update links for end date regs on mains, and add new threads as they are posted on the regs board
If the poll ends on a 'no' because of the issue of losing some of these 'popular' reg comps then we'll have to look at another option, but if people want a guideline that will enable these comps to stay on the main board then all comps would have to be treated the same way, so every ongoing weekly and monthly currently on the regs board would have to be posted each w/m on the main board in the same way, there would be no need for the w/m stickies as each comp would have a new thread every w/m, and the regs board would just contain dailies
in fact I suggested a similar suggestion to this on 17th Jan here as well as on the 1st page of this thread, but although it seems to be what some people want no one picked up on it at the time
sorry this has been long and hope you're all still awake :rotfl:

Glad there were board guides already here doing the job. Why did you do anything at all without consulting them first? Why did you carry on when people told you it was wrong?
A couple of people weren't happy and now lots of people aren't happy.
And now the entire argument is being driven by a very small minority of compers. A small minority who seem to just keep repeating their opinions ad infinitum, or claiming they are voicing the concerns of others. Which they are not.
The polls is pointless, hundreds of compers and very few voters. It wont be a valid result. It can't be with that few.
Both Dalkirst and Diva have said things shouldn't have changed. I for one think they are right. Talk to them and get it sorted. For everyone's sanity and the future of this forum.
Many thanks0 -

I'm a BG on MSE and moved comps according to the board descriptions which were in place for boards set up by the MSE team
and why do you assume that the other BGs weren't consulted when I started looking at the regs board
when lot's of people said they were unhappy I said 'let's discuss it then' and it turned out that rather than 'leave things as they were' people then wanted more reg comps posted on mains, not just 'back to as it used to be'
even if only a 'couple of people' weren't happy (and it was more than that) they have a right to be heard
and just as you are able to pop in here and post when you 'have something to say!!' so could any of the other 100's of compers if they wanted their view heard
I'm sure you didn't mean to make me feel as bad as you have but think I'll bow out nowI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I apologise, I didn't mean to make you feel bad.
Both Diva and Dalkirst have said they don't think anything should have changed, so I assumed, wrongly obviously, that they hadn't been consulted.
The majority of compers don't do anything except enter comps. They don't read discussions, they don't read long threads, especially ones run rough shod over by a few very opinionated people, stating the same things over and over again, they stay away because it isn't worth the agro.
Keep it simple, I wish it was.
Sorry for any offence. I'll butt out, again, myself.0 -

& you've done more helping peeps behind the scenes that others don't know about,

well the poll is anonymous and I've asked people not to use it as a further discussion, so even if people don't want to voice their opinion they will hopefully still vote over the next 5 daysI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. People don't understand what the poll is about. The posts in this thread prove that, even the ones that keep trying to explain it don't agree.
People don't read discussions, they don't read stickies. They miss this and the poll.
Somebody in authority, a BG as MSE towers don't want to be involved, just needs to make a rule and stick to it. Carrying on like this wont sort it out.
Thank you for allowing me to have an opinion, even though I don't post much0 -

ok
I'm a BG this is the new rule and I'll close the poll
Main Board - For all one-off comps with single entry
Regulars Board - For all regular competitions that happen more than once, that would otherwise get lost on the main competitions board amongst all the one-off comps
that's simple
PS the reg board description above is the actual description on the regs sub board!!
PPS before the board self destructs I'm kidding as I really want as many people to be happy with the board as possible, so let's slog on and try and find some middle groundI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards.
