Imho, i feel the stickys should come out of regs onto main not the reg comps, if the stickys were on main no-one can say they are hidden, and yes i wanted less stickies but 3 stickys that are then making all comps accessible to all on main is better than this minefield x

stick the compers inn in regs or iwon ,same with postals, discussion needs to stay otherwise people wont see it and post q's everywhere x

If those stickies were on main and the monthly comps stayed in the reg section as they are reg comps, everyone sees them and more order x

I am sorry if i have confused any issue xxxxxx

the can be posted on main with a link to the thread in regulars (not to the comp site) was an attempt at a compromise to allow reg comps, already in regulars, to be posted on mains without being an actual dupe.

like beth i use the thanks, when i enter this months comp i unthank and then rethank so if i come across it on main i see when i thanked, if it was in march i know ive entered, if it was in feb ive not done march yet. if i spot it on mains first i enter then and do the thanks thing to the op in regs. the link in gb's post goes to the thread in regulars, form which the comp is linked.

i find it better to have them posted as links on mian like that, than to have the comp thread in regs in the regulars sticky, but also find it posted as a whole new post on main relying on my shoddy memory to tell if it is an ongoing reg comp., if its in the sticky, or if its actually a totally brand new comp that ends on 31.03 and wont be repeated with an end date of 30/04 and 31/05 etc. as was happening before.

eta: people want them on mian for the benefit of the people who use neither the regs forum nor the sticky threads.

see what you mean now :) way I do these is to check my thanks.

As soon as I enter a comp whether I get into it directly, via a linking thread or via the sticky I unthank and rethank.
Then if I go into a thread I've already thanked I just check the date I last thanked to see if I entered.

It's a few extra clicks but it helps me not dupe so is worth it until we find a way to please everyone that's better than this? :)

But if moving the stickies to main would please everyone(??) maybe that's an even better way around than the current fix? :)

the linking to regs threads were for people who think some people miss out on comps in regs board, and yes I see what you mean now :) hope beffffff and pcl ideas might help :)

re your idea of the regs stickies being on mains, I think that's worth thinking about and I'll see what the other BGs think :)
the Inn might be better in IWIWIW, and not sure about the postals as people may miss it altogether, having the regs stickies on mains should mean that the linking threads mentioned above wouldn't be needed though so that would help
even if we only moved Inn out, once this thread is unstuck, and Andrea has said to unstick hers, we would only be left with 7 which is less than there used to be (8 for a short while until people got used to the new guidelines which would eventually become part of the updated compers guide)

I understand what u r saying, but if i comp tonight on main i will trip over newly posted monthlies with end date,if i enter those, i can not then go to monthly thread once a month and open them all one afternoon and do them like i have done , as the there is no distinction in the monthly thread as to which is which. Becuase i would have thanked the thread on main, i wont see the thanks on the thread that opens from the monthly sticky as that leads to a reg.

example to try and explain it better, the lovely granny biker has posted several tonight this is one https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3121596
if i enter that as i come across it on main, i will have no way of distinguishing when i open the monthly sticky that has been entered already.
my tick will be on main so that will be no help.
when u look at the monthly list u can't tell which are which.
so as i see it if i do the ones posted onto main i cant use the sticky anymore. and as they aren't all on main i need to use the sticky to have some order in what i'm doing but wont have any order xx

I have no issue on what goes where and am happy to go along with any decision made, i just see the monthly issue as chaos as others surely will be in same situation x

Thanks Toniq, its a very valid point,

I thought it had been agreed that when a link to a Reg thread was added, then this would be mentioned in the title, This was to save people who are using the Regs board/stickys from opening that thread up. The Tag is meant to be (REG) similar to how Zenmaster had posted some links if you search for Reg just in titles. Its also only meant to be a few Regs linked in this way, so not all the comps over on the board.

If I am remembering rightly, then all of the comps linking to Regs need a Tag added to their title.

(4 times, I have tried to come on and post, each time Tianna or the older kids needed me instead... I reckon they are ganging up to keep me off the pc)
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

Found the suggestions of linking and Reg Tags, its from post 790 onwards - Its ended with an agreement to add a tag of (REG) or (R) to the title of linked thread.

I had however forgotten that BGs were possibly going to lock the Link threads to prevent Comp links getting posted in the thread, so would like that confirmed if its still meant to happen before I state that in the guidelines.

This just appears to be a few people making it as complicated as they can for everyone else except themselves.

Rules left, right and centre. Threads, stickies and more rules. Not forgetting the myriad of tags being suggested.

Woe betide anyone new coming here, you wont understand it. 6 months ago I didn't understand the regulars, but could cope, now it looks like the main board is going to be as confusing.

Thank God this is only a hobby for me, I'll continue as I have, if it looks complicated I'll ignore, if I dupe, who gives a flip.

Thanks Diva and Darren for your words of wisdom over recent discussions.

Simple, people like it simple ;)

Tell me about it... I would love things to be simple, unfortunately, when people say they have time to enter 100's of comps but not to use the Regs board or open up a thread, what are we to do???

So I hope when you are saying a few people, you are not referring to my attempt to collate all of the suggestions, MSE posts, MSE Andreas Rules, along with the unwritten comping rues that we have all followed by using our psychic powers... Very few if any, of the actual Tags or guidelines are mine, I have just drawn them all together in one place.

Its just such a pity it didn't get sorted out 6 mths ago :( and when People who had been helping the Comps board for years were accused of hiding comps over on Regs.

Can I also say that I really wish you had all spoken up when it was first suggested about moving all the d/w/m ones out of Regs.

All we are currently trying to do is not go down MSE Andreas latest updated Guideline which meant no postal thread, no Mags thread, no Regs Sticky and all d/w/m threads reposted every day/week/month as completely new threads for everything...
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

Mamzie sorry I didn't forsee this and mention it before, I had my wrist op so hadn't been able to comp as much as i would have liked, infact my son had been cherry picking comps whilst I was in plaster, Now i'm just in a splint I'm trying to get back to comping and organise myself as I used to.
Hence I have only just said it x

It's just a hobby to all of us Al Mac :)

All people are trying to do here is make things clear for everyone and try to keep as many people as possible happy (and like Mazmie says, avoid going down the route of all dailies being posted each day, all weeklies each week, all postals and magazine comps being posted as new threads each time, etc.)

Mazmies proposed rules are, in the main, the unwritten rules we've all followed so if you want it back to how it was six months ago if we go with Mazmies rules then it's really not that far off.

Six months ago there were threads, stickies, a regular board, and rules (written or unwritten) not to dupe, bump, C&P things in full, chat outside discussions/the Inn, etc.

The only things I can see in Mazmies rules that are different to how it was are the linking threads and the title tags. Plus a little clarity on what goes where (based on what people have asked/voted for).

I think it's just 1 click to regs and 1 click to open a comp and not a big deal, and have no need for either linking threads or tags. However a lot of people seem to think very differently. So do you ignore them or do you try to add something that helps without affecting others?

I like it simple too. I would prefer regs on regs, rest on main. I take responsibility for any comps I miss due to lack of time or me forgetting about a thread or whatever. But I'm in the minority, people seem to want things on a plate for them. These proposed new ways are not better for me at all. But I can work around them with little difficulty (e.g. it takes a few seconds to add a title tag and another few seconds to thank/unthank and/or check the last time I thanked a post)

with regard to this, given that the linking threads are causing trouble for many (its not the first time its come up) perhaps we need to add an example template into the guidelines?

im sort of wondering if it also needs to be clear somehow that it is not for every single regular comp. maybe it could be that its allowable for any that there has been a major prize change on (so say form a book to a tv or something rather than to a different book?), or maybe just if its a really good prize like a entertainment system, or where its a new regular that hasnt been there before (so people who only use main wont have come across it and added to their own database/spreadsheet/whatever).. or something? im trying to think how we can balance it so the people who do use regs and the stickies are not inundated by page upon page of them also on main as linking threads, but also get new ones or likley to be very popular prizes onto main so people who dont use either regs or stickies dont miss out.
