Re: (REG) threads on main linking to promos on regs board.
I think this whole thing is becoming unwieldy, after seeing it trialled over recent weeks I don't like it at all.
It has serious weaknesses:-
1) It could link to a CURRENT POST that contains the wrong answer
eg. Follow THIS LINK – what if the correct answer of £22.99 is given in the next post?
2) It could link to a CURRENT POST that doesn’t have all the info needed to enter
eg. Follow THIS LINK – no link to the actual comp
3) The post on main itself is prone to duping if it doesn’t contain at least the DOMAIN of the comp (which a large number of people use as their primary search term)
eg. THIS POST - (the domain is merlingroups.co.uk)
4) The point raised earlier by toniq where you find the comp through the sticky only to find you've already entered because you came across it on main - a potential big time-waster.
5) Each additional rule required to format one of these posts makes it easier to get wrong. Most of these posted recently are missing something or other.
If it reaches the stage where every ongoing monthly/weekly regular has a 'Reg link' post on main then we may as well post the comp itself each time on main and abandon the weekly/monthly regulars board and sticky.0 -
I agree One-Eye
it's been tried but shown to have flaws, it was originally only a solution to make people aware of particularly good comps running on the regs board, but they were usually the promos with an end date that might be missed by people,
at least having regs with end dates on mains now means that the 'bigger' promos are found by people who only use main board
toniq raised the question of having the regs stickies on mains which would make them easier to find and use, otherwise the guidelines we encourage everyone to use could be updated to promote the regs board more and include ideas on how to easily use it when compingI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I agree too One-Eye.
They don't bother me but I'm fed up arguing their case when they are of no benefit to me other than to keep the peace and they aren't doing that!
Although re: 1) and 2) I thought the link was supposed to go to the thread not a single post for those very reasons? (covered in 5) I guess)
3) should be overcome by people searching properly. If I search it shows up comps on regs and main so I know if it's in either. I don't do anything special to get this (I think?)
4) and 5) again I agree. So do we just say to people stop being lazy and learn to use regulars for ongoing regulars or it's down to you if you miss out because by trying to help you we're annoying other compers and/or wasting their time (that's fine with me btw!).
Moving the stickies to main as suggested by toniq may help people agree with that?
And re your last comment, agree again. But thought the idea of these were just for not to be missed comps not everything on regs as seems to be becoming increasingly the case...0 -
just focusing on a guideline for what type of promos are considered ongoing I've taken the following from Mamzie's postOngoing Competitions - These are competitions with no apparent Promotion End date, but which hold a regular d/w/m competition, they may require repeat d/w/m entries, or can be a one time only sign up. These competitions are to be posted in the Reg Sub Forum - State “Daily/Weekly/Monthly prize/entry” in the thread title. New posts can be added to the thread for new questions/answers/links. Please update the relevant Daily/Weekly/Monthly Sticky thread in Regular Sub-Board with a link to the Thread, and competition info.
if this could be agreed to, with a poll of all users, it would be a reference for anyone unsure of wether a comp should be on main board or regs
all reg entry promos with an end date would be posted on the mains board as agreed in Andrea's 1st poll
that leaves promos with irregular end dates eg sci fi comps, big yellow on fb, and irregular entry methods eg nuts, wotv
I think most people would prefer them to be posted on mainswith an end date for each promo
basically the above should put things generally back to the way they were 6 months ago with the added bonus that reg promos with a definite end date are now posted on the main board, and a guideline to point to for anyone not sure where a thread should be postedI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. Not sure if anyone would agree with this, but when there are comps for tickets or meals or events etc. I think it would be really useful if the title always included what city or town its in, saves you having to open the thread up and be disappointed when you see that its for London or Manchester when you live in Newcastle or Bristol.
Probably sounds petty, but I think it would be really useful.0 -

agree
or if it cant fit in the title, at least in the first post. save having to google to find out where x hotel is before you know if its too far away for you to enter for a 1or 2 night stay or not.
unless of course im the only one who googles for where things are before deciding if can enter or not :rotfl:0 -

That's often the problem with posting a comp. It's often hard to please everyone & cover all bases eg "watch the tick boxes","Don't forget to validate your entry" etc etc.
We can all just try our best :-)0 -
Re- new poll...)
all regular entry promotions with an end date would still be posted on the mains board as agreed in Andrea's 1st poll
so if a promotion doesn't have a regular end date and regular entry method it can be posted on the mains board
basically the above should put things generally back to the way they were 6 months ago with the added bonus that regular promotions with a definite end date are now posted on the main board, and a guideline to point to for anyone not sure where a thread should be posted
could you live with these guidelines if they were implemented YES or NO

:T Thanks for trying so hard to sort this out Glad :A.
I've kept out of the more recent discussions as I was beginning to get a bit lost tbh, but will just pop a note here on things that have occured to me, but I can't see mentioned... (If they've been addressed & I've missed it, humble apologies.
Will nail my colours to the mast & start by saying I'm delighted that more comps are on the main board, yet also that common sense seems to be prevailing with some comps still being updated each day / week, (in a single thread as appropriate,) rather than reposted as MSE Andrea originally suggested. That certainly wasn't the desire of many, hence the ongoing debate, as I read it...
I think the whole issue has arisen due to inconsistences, which, with the best will in the world, are still continuing...
e.g. CelebrityAngels V HelloMagazine. Both comps allow multiple (Daily) entries, use the same URL and have end dates with different prizes and a new comp beginning pretty much as the previous one finishes. CA has never been challenged or moved. Hello has been subject to much debate. (Would "Going back to how it was 6 months ago" mean it could stay on the main board as it always was before?)
e.g. 2, Bosch, V Dell monthlies. Both ran a new comp each month that needed to be entered each month. Again, Dell remained unchallenged, but Bosch was often moved.
I've provided just 1 daily & 1 monthly example; there are many, many more as you're all aware...
As you so rightly say tho' we can't seem to come up with "Rules" that suit all of the people, all of the time...
Have tried hard to post in line with new regs, and had PMs thanking me for flagging up several monthlies on the main board using the new guidelines. However, despite links going back to regs & putting a footnote on it seems folk are still worried about duping or wasting time. Others think it should be limited to the "Good" comps. Again, a cause for debate . Obviously I think they're "Good" as they're ones I have in my own favourites folder to enter each month. Others obviously disagree
.
Perhaps we just need to accept these differences, quirks & all the inconsistences and try and move forward. If folk are worried about others missing comps, post as you interpret the rules, with the appropriate links to avoid dupes. If you click on a comp you don't want / have already entered, simply move on...
As regular posters know, it's pretty time consuming to post comps when we could be entering them ourselves. It's done to help others, not for the "Thanks" (tho' we hope for some good karma,) to disrupt the board or annoy those who comp differently.
This post is intended in the same vein too, so I hope no-one misinterprets it as a dig or personal criticism. In no way is this intended, anywhere.

Im completely confused as to what is going on, so i am happy to go along with whatever is decided.
However, could i please ask if something could be done - PLEASE could people add (blog) to a title when posting, i dont always have a lot of time, and especially now, im finding more and more blog comps are being posted and it is really taking a lot of my time going into a comp and finding its a blog (which i do not want to follow or enter). People add email, FB or twitter, so im sure blog would not be too much to ask?
Thank you x0
