Each format has its own size, thickness and weight criteria.
Gifts, clothes, shoes, posters, video tapes, large books and other large items and documents are all examples of items that are likely to fall into the Packet format.

    Length: over 353mm OR

    Width: over 250mm OR

    Thickness: over 25mm OR

Weight: over 750g. There is no weight limit for items
sent First Class. The weight limit for Second Class
    items is 1000g.

    Sending larger items?

The maximum dimensions for rectangular items are 610mm x 460mm x 460mm. Items over these dimensions should be sent by Standard Parcels.

    Sending a poster?

The maximum length for rolled or cylindrical items is 900mm, and the length plus twice the item diameter must be no more than 1040mm.

I'm sure this is simplicity itself and the number who get it wrong are just stupid however it is for certain that it is rather more complex than it was. I used to be able to buy a normal birthday card, for example, choose 1st or 2nd class and put it in a box but not now. I must stop here so I can find my 353mm ruler

:) I've still got the cardboard gizmo measuring thingy that they sent out when they first changed to this new system.

If I forget to check... my local post office is closer than my nearest post box and they have a proper gizmo measuring thingy on the counter.

Some people are so rude and mean on here. Instead of saying something in a polite way they say it in a bullying way. I had a card back in January sent from my father which was actually just a gift voucher with nothing else in it and it was not thick in size and they said he under paid by 10p too so I had to pay the £1.10. Though it took them two two weeks before telling me about it. From now on I guess you have to put two stamps on cards that are small just in case or just buy large stamps. Luckily I do not often receive post from family and friends but its still a pain.

no,but it was large enough to be a large letter
so the 1st class stamp wasnt enough
postage was dropped to 2nd class and you were charged the difference from the 1st class stamp to a 2nd class large letter
the delay was because charge items are manually handled and as such take longer to process and increase the costs to handle them
you already know who was at fault,so what was the point of telling everyone that you paid for an underpaid item?

really.so where has the money gone thats due on that charged item?
RM have sacked posties before for irregularities in the charge items
A DO gets X amount of charges per day
that amount is recorded by revenue protection
so you either return any uncollected charges, input the details of those paid online or send the cash back for those collected charges
any shortages need to be explained and from RM's point of view that is missing money presumed stolen
