zonal pricing is coming.you may laugh but mark my words its coming
I do believe you.
You may have a choice with parcels etc but for sending the bog standard birthday card then as a personal user I don't think you have a wide range of effective choices.
My office is open from 7-1p.m. 13 hours would be perfectly reasonable.
You don't have to cover true handling costs for every item. You have to cover the costs of the business so effectively subsidising a (relatively) small number of packages for the bonus of business that simplicity would bring might be a winner.
Not using it is an answer of sorts. I don't like being in a large badly managed queue at the post office so I get services online, if possible. The fact that so many now do this has caused a pressure on post offices and some of them have closed. I don't like the complexity of the mail process so I use other methods where possible. As more do this the business will contract and become ever less viable. Running it properly which includes a transparent and simple pricing strategy is one step towards this. Now all that remains is to deal with the 75 million rubber bands!0 -

your simple system doesnt take into account RMs prices are regulated, what they do is regulated
they charge one price for the whole of the UK(RMs rule is an address must take no more than 15 minutes to deliver to,try making money on that address!)
they have to deal with a growing downstream access market0
