I've still got the cardboard gizmo measuring thingy that they sent out when they first changed to this new system.
I made my own after a Blue Peter programme but I've also lost it now. Still I think I'll send a cylindrical object. That's nice and easy. Now let me see the length is 791mm and the diameter is 124mm so if I double the diameter and add it to the length it comes to..... (use fingers!!!) 1039 so thatis 1mm inside the max provided th length is less than 900. I'm glad they have now got this simple system.0 -
I'm sure this is simplicity itself and the number who get it wrong are just stupid however it is for certain that it is rather more complex than it was. I used to be able to buy a normal birthday card, for example, choose 1st or 2nd class and put it in a box but not now. I must stop here so I can find my 353mm ruler
thats right,things change.
so answer this. what takes more effort/handling?
a 500g item measuring 10cm/2cm/1cm
or a box weighing 200g and measuring 1m x 700 x 400
under weight only pricing the small item costs more, yet is far cheaper to handle
same with large flats(letters) the machines(even the new fancy walk sequencing machines) cant sort them.so more expensive hand sorting
so whats your answer?0 -

really.so where has the money gone thats due on that charged item?
RM have sacked posties before for irregularities in the charge items
A DO gets X amount of charges per day
that amount is recorded by revenue protection
so you either return any uncollected charges, input the details of those paid online or send the cash back for those collected charges
any shortages need to be explained and from RM's point of view that is missing money presumed stolen
Fine. But that isn't theft.0 -

so wheres the money due?
no item with a charge due should leave a DO until the payment is made or it is being returned to sender
so by taking it the RM employee is taking the item without permission0 -
I don't about anyone else but I can't be bothered with it all. I send a lot less now then I used to.weight loss target 23lbs/49lb0

so whats your answer?
My answer is that some postal packets will cost more to process than others however it is not sensible to have a scheme which
a. takes a lot of working out on the part of the customers and
b. is unnecessarily complex as this is
You wouldn't sensibly set a different rate because something is marginally more expensive to process. Instead you would have categoreis to combine the expense of processing with a method that is clear, fair and transparent. Very complex methods lead to mistakes both on the part of the consumer and also the business.
Of course things change and to a large extent the post office has a monopoly(at least with letters) so can more or less do as it wishes but it hastens the day when people will use alternatives where they possibly can.
To stamp and post a simple letter or card should not require you to get a slide rule or a measuring tape out.0 -
My answer is that some postal packets will cost more to process than others however it is not sensible to have a scheme which I think you mean some items should be handled at a loss surely?
a. takes a lot of working out on the part of the customers and
b. is unnecessarily complex as this is so what do you propose then. its a simple question
You wouldn't sensibly set a different rate because something is marginally more expensive to process.marginally?,look at the example i gave.one goes with the delivery potie and another requires a van. plus you then have the extra cost of storage/redelivery Instead you would have categoreis to combine the expense of processing with a method that is clear, fair and transparent. Very complex methods lead to mistakes both on the part of the consumer and also the business. so whats the method you propose? size doesnt work on its own, weight doesnt work on its own.soooooo?
Of course things change and to a large extent the post office has a monopoly(at least with letters) does it? or are you referring to Royal Mail? so what is downstream access and regulated pricing?so can more or less do as it wishes but it hastens the day when people will use alternatives where they possibly can.
To stamp and post a simple letter or card should not require you to get a slide rule or a measuring tape out. a simple card wouldnt since all the ones i have seen are marked as to what they require in postage
so you make lots of statements but i dont see many answers. so lets here it.
what will you do when zonal pricing comes in?0
