The highway code covers this situation differently!

But what happens when a you are already passing parked cars and another car approaches?

I have always been under the impression that the driver who enters the hazard fist, has the right of way. It is then treated as a single track road.

The HWC has this to say:

"give way to oncoming vehicles before passing parked vehicles or other obstructions on your side of the road"

Seems fairly black and white to me.

But then it also suggests that mini islands should be negotiated in a first come first served basis and we all know that never happens.....

No, you where correct the first time when talking about a narrow road with cars parked on both sides, thus placing you both in the middle of the road.

Quentin is referring to the original scenario as posted by strider.

I did try to politely point out to Lil_Me that his scenario was different to striders, but he got the !!!!.

I had a near-miss with a pensioner last week who was adamant that you give way to the left on a roundabout.

Perhaps he's on a decent pension and spends most of his time driving on the continent. They do that over there.

Presume you mean entering a roundabout.

What gets my goat is when a bus stops at a bus stop and the first car behind the bus waits till it is clear to pass the bus. Then it seems all other traffic that was stopped behind the first car automatically assumes it is clear to pass the bus irregardless of what is coming the other way.

    Just to make a point........

My annoyance was with the guys response, not the fact he barged on through.
It was purely the way he got abusive toward me when he had no right to do what he did.... If he'd waved a "thanks" at me, id have probably thought "yeah ok, whatever".

    Oh, i hate this!!

On my way to work, I come towards come traffic lights that splits into two lanes, the opposite direction is one lane. There's a bus stop about 5/6 feet from where the lanes splits so the bus stops and people start overtaking without even looking so careering towards anyone in the right hand lane - then shout at you! I don't know what they expect you to do thought - I'm not going to reverse up the road, I can't move to the left, I can't move to the right so everyone is stuck until the bus moves off!

you just cannot let one car pass a parked bus if there is a cue, the person letting the car past knows that thers a que behind it, patience is the key in these situations, the driver has committed to allowing the vehicles past this is curtesy, eventhough in the ideal world that you let one out the other stays there to let you carry on this just doesnt exist anymore, if you let one it is assumed by the cue you let all the others thorugh too. ive seen arguements and dints caused by these scenario's so i adapted my thoughts on it and mindfull that if i let one out the others will follow, so i always check to see if theres allot of cars behind me before i do make any decision to let a cue through from behind a bus if theres on or two cars i'll let them past, if theres more sorry but you may not pass go or rather a bus.

if the person passing an object has commited to it and obviosly hasnt seen you as you werent in sight im affraid they have priority.
dont take that out of context i mean by where there is no misjudgement by the committed driver passing to the distance and speed of wich your approaching, if the driver misjudged it is still you priority over him but if your werent in his sight at all and you approach him in the passing phase then he has a priority.
