sounds like a typical day in the life of most mums. Hope you feel a bit better now.

I had one child, then thought I'd have another and got twins...ended up with 3 kids under 2. Yeah, that's been fun ;)

I too have gone out in my slippers. Didn't even realise until I pulled up outside Asda. Then I had to ring the person minding the kids to say "please put my shoes in the porch so I can just open the door and grab them" because I just couldn't face the kids.

I told the kids the other day I was changing my name from Mummy. "Mummy, can I have......", "Mummy, can I do.........", "Mummy, what's this....", Aaaaaaaaaaaargh!

We all love our kids but yes, days like yours happen, drive you nuts and it's perfectly understandable but you beat yourself up anyway.

    Now breathe.........

part of the baby's nap and quality time with your older one can be housework.. he can load the washer.. and empty it to the wash basket.. mine used to do all sorts.. I had my 2 y/o GS filling the washer yesterday and today he has done the dryer.. it teaches them valuable life lessons and skills,.. With mine they used to come help me for a short time then we would have lunch or a snack then go read or watch a film and snuggle or whatever they wanted.
You are a total star:T:T:TCan I borrow you to slap SOTD into shape?:D:D
LALA I know you are beating yourself up hun, but it must be so draining having a toddler and baby, all day every day:eek: I dread to think how my very selfish and demanding DD will cope when she has this baby, as DGD will only be 2.5:eek::eek:

Now I have a few hours of serious cleaning and tidying to do so I don't start off tomorrow even worse than today boo hoo!

Once they are both peacefully asleep, make a moment or two to pop in and see them. Somehow after a particularly awful day, watching them all angelic and quiet gave me the will to get up the next day for more of the same:D

It will get better. At the time mine were that age, I felt like you did. Desperate to get out of the house and to just keep up with the constant demands. Now mine are teenagers and guess what? I MISS that time when they were constantly there and I was the single most important part of their lives.......
Try to lower your expectations and enjoy it as best you can. It will all too soon be over:o

I know this is going to sound bonkers, but please please enjoy it.

My day started when I woke up to silence at 10am. I did some cleaning, a little washing then sat down to watch the football. I put a chicken in the oven around 4 for a family meal around 6, then sat down and watched more football. I had a text from 13 year old DD telling me not to do her any dinner as she'd eaten at her friends where she stayed last night and 18 year old DS wandered in from work at 6. Now they are both in the sanctuary of their rooms as most teens do.

If I could go back and spend the day in the chaos that was my toddling children, if I could hear the contagious giggles as I dropped coffee or got flustered, if I could play silly games and go to bed worn out I'd snatch it with both hands.

Your homes are noisy, chaotic and full of love. Cherish every moment of it, no matter how stressfull it feels sometimes because one day you will sit down in the silence and miss it.
  • I have always had a nappy bag in the car that has a change of clothes, jar of food, spoons, bottle/cup, nappies, wipes etc. That when when I want to go oout all I have to go is grab my coat and kids and we are off. My mind is generally so frazzled, have no spare hands, that if it is already done and packed, I just top up when needed. But as others have said, sounds like a normal day to me. Hopefully now the weather is getting better they can run off some energy in the garden rather than wrecking the house. My youngest loved being out with me today whilst I was gardening.

I am a single mum to 2 girls and go to work part time because it is easier than being at home and I need a rest!

That made me cry lol. I dread the day mine are all grown up :(. I have 4 boys who are 3,5,7 and 9. It is absolute chaos and hard work at times but I always keep in mind that one day it will all be over and my house will be quiet.

There's always grandchildren I guess :rotfl:

    Great points here from everyone!

All I have to add is - don't go shopping with young children except when absolutely necessary, they will drive you bonkers! Of course we do often have to take them round the supermarket with us so when mine was around 1 she used to have snacks (raisings etc) to keep her occupied, and now she has bribery (no screaming or shouting in the supermarket and she gets to choose a biscuit). Naturally I would have frowned on this sort of bribery once upon a time :p

Always have bananas, raisins, and rice cakes on you. Good for lunch or snacks while out if you have forgotten babyfood.

If you want to meet a friend for coffee get them to meet you in a local playcentre. You get to chat while kids get to play, and if they act up you don't feel as self-conscious and stressed as if you are in an adult environment.

Getting stuff done around house - In the Night Garden works wonders!
