    The reason for paying less for budget airlines is not to suffer a higher risk of errors and negligence. It's so you can avoid paying for the inclusive frills that you receive on traditional airlines like hold baggage, meals, champagne, better seat pitch, lounge access etc.
    and just to pick up on this point. You also do not get:

    • station managers at every destination;
    • spare parts and tools within easy transfer distance if not on site;
    • maintenance techs capable of servicing the A/C at the airport concerned;
    • sufficient fleet flexibility to allow for problems.
    All of these cost money and you won't see the budget airlines covering these angles which make normal travel by scheduled mainstream airline so much smoother.

    Having said that i got caught up in a BA fracas many years ago where Copenhagen was shut due to strikes so they were flying Tristars into Fornebu (Oslo) to get their passengers into Northern Scandanavia. I turned up at the airport to find 250 people trying to get onto a single flight where that airport normally catered (not used as the international airport for Oslo now) for 737s and such like. Airport way not big enough!! Not only did the Tristars have a struggle getting in and out (runway just a bit short) but there were no maintenance facilities for them at all. Guess what - the one I was due out on went technical so they sent a kit of bits and a maintenance crew out on the next one two hours later, ended up without the correct tool to undo the wheel nut (came on a later SAS flight).

    So now we have 500 people milling about in a very confined space with nowhere to go and to add insult to injury our crew ran out of hours so they took the one behind whilst we sat there whilst ours was fixed. 6 hours late back into LHR!!

    This sort of thing happens. You have to live with it not just stick your hand out for compensayshun the minute something goes slightly awry.

    Cheers

    Erm, what the blooming hell are GHD's?

    I really think I need to get out more.......
    We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
    Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    Try getting onto your MP or failing that, a no-win no-fee solicitor - it's disgraceful how these holiday companies conspire to ruin our lives

    don't mess around like that, go straight to the top, The european Court of Human Rights - they even have a link for just this sort of evenuality.

    If the former, your initial post would have had far more credibilty if you had mentioned this from the off, although I should imagine you would have comprehensive business insurance to cover the temporary or permanent loss of the tools of your trade.
    Insurance is for when the culpable party can't be traced or can't be made to pay. In this instance, Thomson is liable and should pay for the consequential losses caused by its negligence.

    To the OP........
    Let us know if you posted the same thread on a forum used by professionals, be interesting to see if you get any real response as opposed to those whose PREMUIM holidays is a 4 day trip to Butlins in Bognor.....

    Negligence is negligence, you pay for a product/service, you expect to receive it, simple as..... hope you get some recourse...

    Is Thomson actually liable though? Genuine question? And I do not want opinion as an answer, stating that as the holiday was booked with Thomson they are devil incarnated who have conspired to ruin the OPs life by deliberately causing so much grief.

    It seems to me that the bag was refused onto a Maldivian Airlines flight, due to flight safety reasons (that's right, its unsafe for an aircraft to take off overweight). Now, Thomson booked this flight for the OP yes. I've got a BA flight this year booked through Expedia. I do not expect Expedia to be liable if BA loose my bag....

    As for the rest of the thread... well it made me smile so thanks all for that. :rotfl:

    I kind of agree with what was touched on above. If this situation can cause so much distress to somebody, then perhaps international travel is not up their street.

    What's a premium holiday then? One with a charter flight where they give you a free set of headphones? Or even one where the rep is guaranteed to be not to be !!!!ed before midday?

    This is a forum where quite a large number of people don't need a company to organise everything for them and therefore have a greater sense of reality to apply when little (and I state LITTLE) things go wrong.

    This isn't just sniping at the OP. The best advice is to leave it.

    I said this thread had made me smile. I am delighted it has been concluded with a textbook internet forum....

    "for no apparent reason I think I'm better than everyone else here, and I'm going going to demonstrate this by making myself look stupid and taking totally unfounded cheap snipe"
