Aldi Shirk Sale Of Goods Act Responsibilities

3 times in this tread people have said the retailer gets the choice to refund replace or repair, THEY DONT the consumer gets to choose, the retailer can only REFUSE a choice if it would be disproportionate to another remedy - please note that in the SOGA disproportionate is not quantified as either a value or time, so could mean many things - also, whichever remedy is decided upon it must not cause the consumer significant inconvenience.
I wish all those giving wrong advice would actually go and read the SOGA before posting, instead of just repeating what they have heard over and over again on here, that has proven to be wrong time and time again!!
Thankyou. It's nice to have some sensible advice from someone who has actually read the SOGA. :T0 -

Just got back from a trip into town so took the opportunity to stop by at Aldi and see the result of the phone call from head office to the manager.
Result: Different manager. Much better attitude to customer relations. Appologised for inconvenience caused by the other manager. Indicated that there were other issues to be resolved (looks like the previous guy was a real 'star'). Refunded my money and insisted I choose a bottle of wine to take as a good will gesture.
So in conclusion. Aldi eventually did the right thing. Those 'experts' advising I should contact the manufacturer were wrong.
Thanks to those on here who have taken the time to read and understand the SOGA.0 -

They don't last as long, the damage can be caused by the user using improper tools and just why?
I love cast iron, I get to season them every year and food always tastes so much better and I can't fathom buying anything other than cast iron. But Enamel really defeats the purpose of cast Iron as you can't use it as a high a temperature as proper cast iron or even the ability to stop sticking. (And if you do use it like a cast iron pan you will cause damage to it, (like blistering and chipping of enamel))
The four Le Creuset pans and casseroles (today's prices about three hundred and fifty pounds) I have had for the last twenty odd years are as good today as they were when I first used them. They have seen some heavy usage over the years and haven't suffered for it. There are one or two minor chips on them, nothing that you would notice on first glance, unless you knew they were there, but otherwise not a thing. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
A good result. Enjoy your tipple! One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

It would help everyone on here, Smcaul, if you could post a link that refers to this. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

When can I get a refund? When will I be entitled to only a repair or replacement?
If you are returning goods that are not of satisfactory quality or not as described and you inform the trader of the problem within a reasonable period of time, you may be entitled to full refund. If you have had some use from the goods or have had them for a while before you take them back you could ask for a repair or a replacement item. You, as the consumer, have the option of which solution you would like, however you must not require the trader to repair or replace the goods if this would be too costly, as compared to another remedy. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

Lol, I have been saying it for years on here, have given up over the last year or so as it got so repetitive, but there are times when I just have to remind people lol0 -
I don't think anyone advised you that speaking to the manufacturer was you're only option. It was merely suggested that at times it can be less hassle to do this.HardWorker2010 wrote: »So in conclusion. Aldi eventually did the right thing.
