This is Aldi though, and more often than not the manufacturer will be German/Italian/Insert other country here based which make things a lot trickier. Its not as simple as calling Tefal.

    Aren't Tefal French ? :rotfl:

    From Tefal website:

"Tefal owes its origins to a Frenchman, Marc Gregoire, and his wife, Colette. "

Tefal is a wholly owned subsidiary of Le Groupe SEB:

    From SEB website;
"initiated by a tinker called Antoine Lescure who, by setting up his tin workshop in 1857 in Selongey (France)"

I suppose that you think Honda is a British company as they make cars in Swindon - unlike Tefal and their pots and pans............

The point being, as you well know but choose to try and belittle to raise a cheap laugh, is that regardless of the original nationality of they have uk based offices, manufacturing and customer services whereas most aldi brands are made elsewhere in the eu with customer services not in the uk.

  • Some people just want to be awkward, just want to prove a point.
Myself, I would have gone straight to the manufacturer, I would have had a new saucepan and would be able to cook my tasty food by this point.
Instead of getting hung up on SOGA.

The goods can be assumed to have been faulty when sold according to soga when less than 6 months have passed.

I have better things to be doing with my life than doing Aldi's job for them ie. returning a faulty item to the maunfacturer. My contract is with Aldi. Aldi have failed to honour their obligations. That was not an innocent mistake. The store manager is trying to make his problem mine. I will do whatever it takes to ensure my rights are not taken away from me - its the principle more than the money.

    Developement
Yesterday I received a phone call from Aldi head office. The guy was very appologetic and said he would be calling the store manager and instructing him to refund my money. I'll update after my visit.

Phoned their head office and was told someone would call me back. They haven't so my only recourse is to use the soga to enforce the law which Aldi seem to think doesn't apply to them.

Although you seem to have a case under SoGA, you are not necessarily automatically entitled to a refund. The retailer also has the option to offer a refund, repair or replace.

Yes, by law Aldi should be responsible for arranging whatever for the saucepans. I suggested that to save your time and effort, which I assume is valuable. Presumably you want a saucepan, as you bought one not too long ago, and that you would like to have one that works - if so, why not go about the quickest way of doing it?

Because the manufacturer, quiet rightly, will only refer her back to the retailer.

Best of luck with that and any other consumer issues you have in the future.

i reckon if you went straight to the manf you would have a replacement with you in less time it will take to be sorted by small claims court

No, the manufacturer is more likely to refer the consumer back to the retailer.
