I have the 2.8% isa at present. Where do I find this rate on my personal on line banking screen? I can only see it on a general screen before I log in. Halifax made a mess of my isa in the past and I don't trust them now!

On the new Halifax on-line banking, you can see it by clicking on the name of the account, then on the next page, just below the name of the account, there is a link which opens to tell you the interest rate for that account.
  • Could you not go with them to the branch ? They can say they want you to deal with things for them, so you could politely decline the sales talk.

Or by phone, I think they could do the security stuff then ask the person to talk to you.
I tried politely declining last time but they insist that it has to be done as if it is part of the process when it is just a sales talk for S&S

I've done that in the past - but sometimes they ask for different balances and transactions in different accounts - this causes the confusion

In the past I used to have write down every accounts balance and recent transactions so they could answer the security questions when asked - I might aswell just write a letter in the first place

I've just logged into my Halifax current account online (that I've had for years) and saw the link for the 3.2% ISA. I applied via that link and have printed out the form to send to them to enable them to transfer my existing ISA from A&L.

So am I auntomatically going to get the 3.2% or do I need to fill in whatever form is being talked about on page 1.

Sorry, it's probably very simple but I'm confused none the less. :o I'd appreciate someone putting me right on this please?

I'm a Halifax savings online customer wanting to switch an ISA from First Direct where I'm a current account holder to the Halifax because First Direct won't allow me to switch my old mean First Direct ISA to a current better ISA deal with First Direct.
It looks as though I have to post an ISA transfer form to the Halifax?
    - ie a Halifax savings customer but without a current account wishing to transfer in a non-Halifax ISA must transfer it by post/in a branch - it can't be done online?
Is it because it requires a signature or just to make it harder for non-current account holders - some of whom will struggle to do a not-online transfer?

All ISA transfers will require a paper form with a signature. That's not because Halifax require it, but because First Direct will want to see that you have authorised them to send your ISA to Halifax.

That would be correct if it was a transfer, but it's not - you're just redesignating the account. The account number and sort-code stay the same, it's just classified as Reward 4 rather than Reward 3.

So the "rate from first credit" doesn't apply, because the account has already been credited. As I understand it, the new rate will apply for 12 months from the date the account was redesignated - i.e. today (if you did it today).

The account hasn't been credited yet, the account balance (reward 3) is zero, the money being transferred is from another bank. Account is now Reward 4, so the rate applied will be for 12 months from when it is finally credited,or when they received my transfer request, that is what I was told.

Ah, yes, then that sounds right, in your case. Most people who are redesignating their accounts will have funded them already, which is why I assumed your account wasn't currently unfunded.

Excuses seem to be rife now. I phoned back and was told they now can't redesignate until the transfer arrives from First Direct :(
Definitely an excuse yesterday. Phoned again today (both people very helpful again) and the account was upgraded to version 4 without any hassle. Apparently backdated interest will also be 3.2% from today :D

Thankyou. I'm not sure whether I'm being dim or whether I'm expecting too much from Halifax! What I would really like to see on my online account is something to show me the interest rate that I'm actually getting at any time, not a link to the rates for the account. I had problems with them last year when I asked to redesignate my isa from 2.6% to 2.8% and though I was told this had gone through, the change over wasn't actioned and my rate dropped to something like 0.5% without my realising. I thought I was getting 2.8% and I wasn't. I was lucky that they admitted their error and it was sorted out and I got the backdated interest but a bit of on line information could have avoided this.

... and as soon as your online banking switches over to the new version (completely different layout to the old one), this is exactly what you'll have.

(N.B. There is one exception - you won't see the additional 0.2% if you have a current account; it'll just show the basic account rate).

Wonderful. So useful for paranoid types like me!
