Yep, I have now rung the number on the "apply now" place, 0845 850 2582 and got through quite quickly. It is open till 5pm today.

I then got what sounded like a new fellow (Andrew) but we got there .....eventually! Almost 30 minutes!

I then put OH on and he did his in about 10 minutes.

Paperwork will be sent apparently, but account number will stay the same.

Interest will be added to our ISA 3s before transfer, and a new 12 month period will start.

He didn't know when all this would show up on our internet banking, has anyone any idea?

I have just rung on the 0845 number, the person I spoke to said they were CLOSED and I needed to ring tomorrow between 8am and 6 pm when of course the )845 calls are NOT free on our phone.

I told her I knew other people were changing things today, but she would not budge.
They should be providing a service today. The web site says:
    Mon-Fri: 8am-8pm
    Sat: 8am-6pm
    Sun: 9am-5pm

Say No To 0870 offers up 0113 380 9574 as an option. I've not tested this though!

That number works and is listed under "Call us from abroad" on the Halifax website. There are a few more menus to navigate through and it doesn't take your sort code/account number on the automated system.

Just curious but why are people doing this by phone rather than online?

'Cos if you already have an ISA Reward, it can only be converted to the new version over the phone or in branch.

I don't think you can re-designate an existing account online. You can't even set up a new account to transfer-in online (unless you haven't contributed to an ISA this tax year).

You can, you just have to lie when it asks you the question about subscribing.

Contrary to what others have been told, above, I was told that that the reward period on an existing account remains unchanged when the ISA is re-designated. Who do you believe?

    I used the savings number - 08457 263646 iirc.

I was told it would take up to four working days to show the new interest rate on on-line banking, but that interest at the higher rate would be effective from today.

However I was also told that the interest-to-date will not be added before the redesignation (because it's the same account, just being redesignated, not transferred) but would be added in April as it would have been anyway.

The bloke I spoke to *seemed* quite clued-up - it took 28 minutes on the phone but that includes time going through security before being put through to the redesignation team, and then three of us redesignating ISAs before the end of the call (including a 16-year-old who just opened his first ISA on-line earlier this week - so his bit took about as long as the other two put together).
