  • It is crazy isn't it, from being scared to 'exposing myself' on this board I have started giving advice to others! but we all know something that will help others, thats why the MSC is such a great idea.

JoJo I am trying to look at things that way and become a compulsive MSE instead of a spendaholic. I am looking on it as a challenge ;) If we cultivate the obsession through this thread maybe the Debt free dates will come down :D

Wow Richard - That''s a huge chunk out of your debt in 1 year. Congratulations. Can I ask was that just on belt tightening, did you sell bits, extra income etc
Am very inspired by your figures!

    JOjO

Hi JoJo - my figures are a little misleading in the fact that I had to sell my house to pay a £14k tax bill and the remaining £6k equity went on debts too.

After selling the house I moved in with my OH which has also helped with the money saving and managed to bring my outgoings down.

Unfortunately I was made redundant shortly before the house sale which made life very tricky. I changed career but now earn a lot less than before which has been a challenge but by getting myself organised and the backing of my OH (she has been brilliant) I have made great strides forward.

This is why I thought I could be someone's mutual support partner as I understand everything that everyone is going through and can give people a few tips on getting organised and money savvy which I never used to be.

Another benefit of taking control of your finances is that it empowers you in all other areas of your life. We live in a clutterless, clean, organised and relaxing environment which I can truly call home - how good is that ?
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

I couldn't agree with you more !! I would love to shout from the rooftops all the things that I have learnt in the last few months so I could help other people with some advice -

    - I have become an ebay whizz
    - I run all my accounts and debts on MS Money 98 and fail to understand why other people don't manage their money with their PC
    - Because of this site I have saved money on, Breakdown cover, home and mobile phones, car and pet insurance,
    - Am now looking at my pension seriously and how I can increase my contributions in the future
    - Have bought some shares in the company I work for
    - Have cut the cost of SKY and AOL but have kept the SAME service
    - Changed current account
    - Cut costs on gas and electricity
    - Am in the process of chasing AMEX and A&L for MY bank charges back
and many many other things !!

It is almost bursting out of me and I am sure that I could make a difference to someone's debt outlook, which I think is rather powerful !

  • So not having a succesful day today!!! grrrrrr:mad:

Went over to pick up baby gate bought off ebay - but Sat Nav sent me miles out of my wayhad to resort to a roadmap and calling a friend to find the right road.

Got back on the road feeling happier and pulled up at petrol station - as I got out of the car my mobile fell out of my pocket and hit the floor - smashing the screen - It now seems completed knackered (boo hoo!:( ) Pulled myself together in the car and thanked my common sense for taking out the mobi insurance on phone couple of months ago. Renewed with high spirits I came home and rang Orange Customer Services, usual 20 minute wait on hold before getting through, turns out my insurance is not with them but with dial a phone and can't do anything about it until tomorrow. Then I'll have to send it away (recorded delivery) for repair and pay £25 excess. I can't be without a phone as I need it for work so I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and stump up the dosh. Really put a damper on my high spirits.

Right time to fight back! --- Going to put some more dvds on Ebay tonight to try and recoup my losses - am also going to check out pay as you go deals to see if a temporary measure might be getting a cheapy till I can afford the excess - though that might not be economically sound as I'm paying a monthly contract. Got £3.56 to last me till Wednesday. But lunch is made and there's still petrol in the car. So not all bad....

Going to venture up into the loft for a further rummage and hopefully find a picasso, a couple of ming vases and the love letters of Lord Nelson - here's hoping!!

    Hey Jo Jo

What an awful start to the day! Did you pick up the gate in the end? I hope it was a good one at least.

Hope the ebaying pays off and you soon have the excess amount you need. Don't those things always happen at the worst times?

I have to say though I am impressed with your fighting spirit and sense of humour :) Well done on staying positive and not allowing the events of the day to get you down!

Lots of hugs and keep smilling, it helps :)

PS I love this thread and if there is anything I can contribute to it, I'll be making sure I call in! ;)

  • Hi JoJo, hope your day has improved since your last post! Good luck with your ebay items, DVD's seem to sell quite well. We did the car boot sale today and made £65 - not too bad worked out we had earned £5 an hour each! Absolutely freezing though!

Amazing how most people just think about their spending, the couple on the stall next to us must have spent more than they earned cos they bought a burger each, 2 cups of coffee each, sweets and a game for their little girl and then a jacket spud!!

we took our own bacon and egg mayo sarnies, soup, coffee and crisps and had a lovely breakfast picnic!!

Proud to be dealing with my debts!

Life is like a ferrari - it goes too fast - but thats ok because I can't afford it anyway!
  • Well my Mutual Suporters How have we all done today???

You heard the start to my day - glad to say it did get better.

The stair gate is fine (phew!) and my sim card is now in my son's phone so I can still function at work - my son's not too impressed but the World will have to do without his contribution to telecommunications for a few days.

My Ebay auction's are going strong - put a few bits on a one day sale and am already up to over £70 so that's a great start.

Bride2Be - Glad to hear that the car booting did well, smart move taking the picnic and it looks like the early start was worth it.

Moozie - thanks for your best wishes - I can tell you what it means to have found this site and be able to talk freely about my financial mess without fear of embarrassment and critiscism.

Richard - I'll be keen to know how you do with AMEX - I will be after them soon, so you have my interest and best wishes.

Evie - I'm definately a reformed shopaholic, my vice was clothes - have to say that was one of the few perks of being pregnant - Lost all my drive to by pretty things as I couldn't fit into them!! - Now I just have to stop myself wanting to buy them for the baby! New Mantra " SHOES - Just say NO!!"

    Loneranger - Hope that's all you're exposing!!!!:rotfl:

Skint Monkey - I think the partner thing is great - If you want to send me a private message I'm happy to swap msn or email addis to keep up support.

Tomorrow is another day - What delights will it bring us all?

    Jojo
  • Evening everyone..Jo Jo what a day you had !
Mine was spent at home cooking and walking the dogs..no money spent either..GREAT !
Then one of my Sons asked for £35 Rugby Club membership just now and that went out the window.
I think I will haev a go at the Ebay thing..only looked at it but sure I can put my mind to it and sell something.
Got a question that is niggling me today..As you know, we have just started DMp with Payplan ( yet to discover if creditors will accept though) and our Mortgage is due to end its fixed rate in May 2007. We were meant to go into the C&G to look at new deals in march/april time but us being in a DMP..will that affect us at all?..Do any of you guys know anything about this? have you got Mortgages and are worried like me too?
    Any replies gratefully received tonight!
    See Ya soon...
    S x
  • OOo you've got me wondering now - Mine is due to end it's fixed term in February and I hadn't given it any thought - but assumed I'd change lenders to a different rate - crikey!!! something to check out.

Well done for not spending - now if we could just sort out the offspring money wouldn't be a problem!!!
