Yes they do do IVAs as well - My debt was too big for that - over £50K (said it was scary  ) so I opted for DMP. I was still up to date with all my payments but knew I couldn't keep it up anymore.
I have a house with about £30K in equitty but as a single mum with two kids selling up wasn't an option so we in it for the long haul.
Loneranger - welcome - good to know you're with us too - tiny steps but all worthwhile and with every inch comes the knowledge that things are getting better.
X Factor for me too - just had bargain basement Spaghetti and meatballs, baby bathed, bottled and bed - now set a target for myself to find one more thing to earn/save money before the night is over. By 11pm I'm determined to have another string to my bow!

Aww must be lovely to have a 10 month old, is she good? My oh's brother has a daughter that age and she is just such a little peach! You are lucky you own your own home, I split up from my daughters dad 6 years ago and I couldnt afford to buy again on my own so have been renting since. Hubby was studying when I met him - he is my toy boy at 29! and he was renting too, in the 2 and a half years since we met we have spent stupid money plus have saved for wedding and honeymoon so cant afford to buy a house just yet, we are going to look into it in the new year cos he is going to work for his dad in the family business so will be earning a bit more money.

Proud to be dealing with my debts!
Life is like a ferrari - it goes too fast - but thats ok because I can't afford it anyway!0 -
I'd like to join too! My debt is around £3.5k and that is made up of one credit card debt and overdraft. I'm not quite sure when I'll get this cleared, but I've made some rather large steps to put me in the right direction - including telling my husband all about it.
I want us to be able to move house next year and start a family but hubby doesn't want to until we've got our debts (which are mine, as above) cleared. So, now I've told him everything I'm more determined to sort myself out and really need this site to help me and if I can be of any help to anyone here, please do shout. I feel I owe a lot to a lot of people here....0 -
Hello folks
Well I've read and read tonight picking up tips from other boards etc. I've earnt £2.40 in piggy points and signed up to be a mystery shopper - so maybe something will come of that. And also saved money on my BT option - went for Option 1 but now found there's a special deal on Option 2 so tha's a call on Monday.
Bride2Be - My daughter is gorgeous, although she isn't helping with the DFW ethos, how old before she can be sent up chimneys???
Loneranger - Are you with a company for DMP? - my payback time was calculated by them on the website (CCCS) could you put your details in online and see what it comes up with anyway?
Bluediamond - Don't worry about the phone calls - I think its easier to get them over with (though I did go through a couple of nights with the answer phone on) Decided that I'm not going to let the calls upset me or make me nervous to answer phone - Take back control.
Brassick, I was a fool, Richard & Evie - great to know you're on board - really interesting to hear all your experiences - we can compare phone call notes!!
Tomorrow is another day - My target's goingto be to make or save £5.
Time for the little boy in X Factor to take the long walk:wave: !!!

I've just had a thought :search: we could maybe buddy up with someone. I know that there was a head to head thing going on, on another thread. We could combine the two, we could pair up with a 'buddy' so we always have at least one specific person who knows our situation and vice versa to hook up with, to help keep us on track. I dunno, I'm cold and a bit tired so it might be a really naff idea :cheesy: anyway, just a thought...:undecided
Edited to say that I re-read the original post and I see that was what was suggested, but then everyone responded saying they were in so it become more of a mini group. Maybe JoJo could pair people up, or something, or maybe I should just :silenced: and go to bed.0 -
Excellent idea.
I think you've got a great insentive for being a DFW now your husband knows about your debt- it most have been SOOOOO stressful before you shared it with him.
Can't say that babies are conducive with Money saving but I'm becoming a past master at tips and ideas for a budget baby!!
Great to share.0 -

OH thinks I am overreacting to the whole situation and wont discuss it really!
Well I just sat down and got every debt out in front of me and looked at minimum payments and APRs. I worked out what I could afford per month after doing an SOA and I then contacted everyone by phone or letter.
I have been lucky enough to have organised them all and now my debts are at 0%. It did take a lot of pitching and cajoling but it has certainly saved me some money. Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -
Wow Richard - That''s a huge chunk out of your debt in 1 year. Congratulations. Can I ask was that just on belt tightening, did you sell bits, extra income etc
Am very inspired by your figures!

JoJo, good to see another DFW early riser, yes I am with Payplan and I've calculated that I will be debt free in 82 years time!!!! but I am of course doing all the moneysaving, moneyearning things to try to reduce that! and strangely enough I am enjoying all this,it has transformed the way I look at and deal with money and it's great to set targets and beat them.Or am I just weird?Mutual Supporters club member (Nov 2006)

Hi Loneranger
I know exactly what you mean - I'm looking around my house wondering what I spent all that money on. I've got tons of stuff on ebay this weekend - and really don't know how I became so materialistic, especially when I realise that most of it was bought on a whim (and a credit card.. :rotfl: ).
"Do I need it?" - is my new mantra .
My debt free day appears to be 17 years away. But I'm determined to bring that down.
Not weird? ... well I'm enjoying the challenge of seeing how much I can save/generate .... I do have a compulsive nature and am becoming obsessed with ways to save etc - at last a useful purpose to being obsessive.0
