  • Hi Everyone - hope you are all doing well , haven't heard muh from some of you lately I hope that's because you're busy saving money and making it and not because you'r feeling low.

Tiny - Is the plan to go further a field for the blue lights or save the money - could always watch for them on sale after Chrisse ready for next year. I broke my lights last year and now am facing the dilema of no lights or spend money - I could ignore it but my son is beside himself!

Could you ask family to all bring a dish towards Christmas Dinner - that would help stretch the food budget even further.

I felt inspired by your news on Halifax bank charges. I've already sent off a claim to First Direct (waiting the 14 days now for the first refusal letter) and am now sending one to the Woolwich where I closed an account in 2004 - Not sure what will come of it but fingers crossed.

I've got a practicalities question for everyone on DMPs - how are you dealing with money for bits you don't buy everymonth eg. Haircuts etc. I don't know whether to get a savings account and pop it in there to build up, or leave it in the current account, do people have more than one savingsaccounts for monthly bills - I know I should put it somewhere -- just wondered what everyone else does.

I know its early days on this DMP - but I'm already worried that unexpected things are denting the budget - this week it was school photos, Christmas unplanned bits (yet more cards!) and I have a flashing warninbg light on the car:eek: Everything appears to be working on it but I feel like I'm chancing my arm each time I drive somewhere.

  • good luck to everyone claiming fees back from the bank, i dont know where to start with claiming fees.
  • Hi In troble
Have a read through the posts and details in the recliaming bank fees forum - It takes you through it all with template letters all the way.
I really think its worth a try - I shall be going after ccs as well once DMP is running smoothly.

  • JoJo, I had a budget plan made out by payplan when they sorted out what I had left to pay to creditors and it listed what I should be saving for haircuts, dentist ,specs, and car repairs etc. I had a dormant basic Nationwide account so used that to save these amounts in, however I don't think my poor old car is going to last until there is enough cash in there to fix it! separate accounts are a better idea because the money is then 'pigeonholed' ready for an emergency instead of sitting in the current account screaming at you to treat yourself to something lol!

  • JoJo - Think husband is getting the turkey from work (He is a chef) and so there is only the veg and another joint to get which mum and dad will probably get for us. I am then making choc pudding like on the M&S advert for dessert as we don't like xmas pudding. so have must of that in. Gran will get some cooked meat for the tea and then some friends are comming too so they will bring the drink I think as no one else will be drinking all have some were else to go later in the day!!!!.

Can't believe it has gone so quick only 2 weeks to go now.

Mum got me some lights for £10 (indoor and outdoor ones) so that was a job well done (ta mum) Daughter is so excited as I have put the tree up this afternoon and was waiting for DH to bring lights home on way from work but he forgot!!!!!!

  • Blimey Tracey you sound like you've got it all sewn up for Christmas.

I'm no way near as organised - still debating going to see my Sister in Belgium, which would save on food, heating etc but would have to stump up for Petrol and Channel tunnel fare (£180 at least) Would be much easier to stay home especially as its my baby's first Christmas.

As to my DFW day - not much movement Had a call this afternoon from cc wanting payment, nothing much else happening. Trying to think about setting up more bank accounts to budget properly for bills. CCCS don't seem to have got in touch with creditors yet - or system hasn't caught up with the phone call harassment departments as the calls keep coming.

Got to try and stay focussed now- finding today a bit of struggle- its trying to stay within budget with car playing up and Christmas coming -determined this is the last time I'm going to struggle at Christmas - £20 going away every month from January.

Hope everyone else had a better day.
