You should get a letter from them saying that they are sorry that you have had cause to complain, and that they will be in touch with you again within 10 working days of that letter. If it follows the same pattern as 1 of my accounts, that will be an offer of refund of all fees without the added interest.
    Good luck!

    Hi everyone

I'm just starting this process with my letter going recorded delivery on Monday morning. I've been with FD for over 10 years and they've generally been ok with me. However, i've now changed bank accounts because they are going to start charging me £10 fir the privelege of banking with them. It's the point of the thing so i've changed.

I'm really nervous about doing this though. I think my claim is going to be quite large and i've never done anything like this before. I just hope it'll work out ok.

There seems to be lots of different letters on the statements. Which ones do I need to take note of when calculating the amounts taken from me? I'm not good with numbers generally so i think it's this that's causing me to be nervous about it.

Nice to see you over here Boudica. Have a look at post #4 in THIS THREAD to see what you can claim.

  • Hello everyone,

As you can see I'm a new poster to this site although I have been reading your posts for a month or so now.

I started my re-claiming process with FD last month after seeing a programme on BBC2.

I called FD and asked for my statements, they sent them to me very quickly without the £10 charge. I calculated a total of £158 in charges and on 30th December I sent a letter (by recorded delivery) asking for my refund.

Today I received the standard reply "10 days blah blah blah" so I'll wait and see.

I've told all my friends about this process so hopefully I'll have a few good news stories to post soon.

    Bye for now

Debt free (except for mortgage) for since 2008 thanks to this site :D
  • Great site!

I will commence trying to reclaim my charges from First Direct. The account was closed in September last year.

I have a loan with them and want to know if anyone thinks there will be a problem.....ie will they make me pay it back in full if I am successsful?
  • Your loan will be a different agreement.
