    Hi Steveo,

I'm claming a similar amout (£2500). I opened a backup bank account with A&L before asking FD for a breakdown of my charges. I too have a £500 overdraft but in the last two years I haven't gone overlimit - my new A&L account has a visa debit card but no OD but I'd be happy with this if FD close my account. The impression I get from reading a few posts on here is that FD don't close down accounts but if I get to the stage you're at I bet I'll get a bit jittery too.

I'm at the stage of having sent the first request for refund of charges and been given the "we'll get back to you within ten days letter" which seems pretty standard. I'll update this thread as I go along, about how I get on with my claim.

    Best of luck to you

    Tom

Thanks Tom, I have a shockingly bad credit rating, no CCJ's as yet though which is amazing. Tried to open a few bank accounts online but to no avail.. even though I specify NO overdraft limit I get declined. This would result in me having to open a cash account with Lloyds or something and prob wont get a debit card (Which probably isn't such a bad thing) which is required in this day and age isn't it..
I'm sitting on this letter, pondering over asking for more, i.e full refund WITHOUT the interest. I really don't know.. this time 2 weeks ago I had no refund from them and now they have offered me nearly £1600, I think i'm just getting greedy wanting more! lol. :T

im awaiting the same letter which I understand is on its way, having spoke to them yesterday. Either they are tightening things up or just not accepting the law too well.:p
  • Has anyone else delt with first direct yet ??? I've just requested list of charges for my accounts online !!! thought it might be a bit quicker.

Having paid up after my first letter (!) First Direct have sent another offer following my second letter which was sent before they responded to the first... if you follow? Sounds like they can't quite keep up with themselves!

I wish theyd make me an offer, ive had nothing except the 10 day letters....the 7 days is up today so i should be filling in the court stuff but tried to track my last letter online through royalmail.com and its not even showing as being delivered yet....think i will wait til after the weekend...
  • Hi All,

I have read most of the posts on this site, all very helpful indeed !

I telephoned First Direct yesterday to request my all statements as only 27 months are online, the guy said this part of the "system" was down at the moment (suprise suprise) and that it would be £10 per statement charge, I read somewhere that the max they can charge me is £40 is that correct ?

So instead of dealing with the telephone operators, today I send a recorded delivery letter with a cheque for £10 requesting all my charge details for 6 years which I understand I have to wait up to 40 days for.

Got me parachute account as I am leaving First Direct anyway due to the £10per month charge and £2.50 charge for text messaging so not worried about them closing my account.

I am just wondering what dealings anyone has had with reclaiming from first direct and what I could expect as their reply ? Ignored I fancy to be favourite.........also do you think once they get my letter they know what`s coming and will start fobbing me off ?

Thanks guys an keep up the good work !!!

Hi Adamarm, I wrote off for my charges in december and received 6 years statements exactly a week later, no problems, they also sent the £10 cheque back saying they did not charge for this.

i sent the next letter off giving them 2 weeks, they then sent a letter saying they were looking in to it and would get back to me within 10 working days. Christmas and New Year came and went and on the day I sent my next letter I got another one from them saying enquiries were taking longer than expected and they would get back to me again within 10 working days....these seem to be standard letters. I am now at the stage I should be issuing the court forms but I am gonny spend the weekend reading up on this before I go ahead - want to make sure I know what im doing. Didnt think I would need to go this far !

Have a read at the SUCCESS thread, people have successfully got money back from FD but there doesnt seem to be any consistency.

    GOOD LUCK !!!!
