someone had a bad day at work and was a bit rude.... the world hasn't ended. i see what the person in the PO was thinking - they've been there working flat out for a while since there's been a big queue and then just before closing someone comes in with a massive pile of parcels that means you will have to stay late.

should they have been rude to a customer... well obviously not. but equally it's not their fault it was so busy that the OP had to queue. a one off event isn't really this much of a big deal. the parcels were sent and that's the main thing. i guess i've had days at work where i haven't done everything perfectly right, so i'd let this go as sometimes, things happen. if the person was always rude, then maybe complain, but for this, be a bit irritated and then think about all the more important things that go on in life.

Our post office closes at 5.00, so you're lucky to have one that's open until 5.30.

I don't think you should have left and then came back later. Me personally I would've just waited it out to get served.

If you work full time then in future I suggest you go on a Saturday instead or get someone else to take parcels to the PO for you in the daytime. Or if you work part time then go on your day(s) off.

My understanding of closing at 5.30 means that they lock the doors at that time and don't let any more customers in, but serve the ones that are already waiting.

For example I have sometimes gone to Argos in Birmingham city centre on my way home from work, I don't finish till 5.00 and Argos close at 5.30. The last time I paid for my stuff at 5.23 and waited for my item to come down from the warehouse. At 5.30, any customers still waiting for their goods are allowed to wait, but no more customers are let in.

    They're called ellipsis.

And I agree with holly. Lately, every post from you seems to be getting at someone else.

You can disagree with that ~ I really couldn't give a fig.

I don't think you should have left and then came back later. Me personally I would've just waited it out to get served.

If you work full time then in future I suggest you go on a Saturday instead or get someone else to take parcels to the PO for you in the daytime. Or if you work part time then go on your day(s) off. Why would they want to wait to go when they had every right to go when they did?

My understanding of closing at 5.30 means that they lock the doors at that time and don't let any more customers in, but serve the ones that are already waiting. And if that had happened in the OPs case, then the OP would have had to have been served, and the miserable moose behind the counter would have still grumbled.

so whats the cut off time?5,10,20,30 minutes
    where does it cut?

When I worked in retail ( though it was some time ago) my CONTRACTED hours of work were 8.50 am until 5.45pm

I had to be on the shop floor at 8.50 to prepare the tills for being ready at 9am when customers arrived and the shop closed at 5.30pm - but again we had to cash up and make the shop ready for the next day - so we were rarely away from work before 5.50pm

I suspect that the op's post office lady probably has a similar contract as do many retail staff - it's not unusual to work a few minutes either side of your shift- if you were in the middle of an emergency operation would you expect the surgeon or nurses to simply stop when their shift ended and leave you there?

if they don't want to be serving people after 5.30 pm they should close for business at 5.15 and clear any outstanding queues until 5.30

    OK, I'll rephrase that.

Everytime I have one of your posts lately, you're giving someone down the banks for no apparant reason.

    And I didn't say I'd give you a fig, I said I couldn't give a fig.
