i keep geting phone calls from this number 01111 when i answer they play a song down the phone then a answering machine message comes on what is this?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

hmm just had a call from this number, to follow on from the 5 previously received and left to answerphone.
When asking the company name they told me in asian accent it is GFC, debt management companyProud to be dealing with my debts
[STRIKE]04/08- £18,500[/STRIKE]04/08 - £16,5370 -
this is getting silly, had 16 phone calls from this number since 4pm which works out roughly once every 15 minutes.
so far been told 4 different company names by the people ringing (all with an asian accent) and been called 3 different names (Mr first name, Mr middle name and surname)
when I ask to speak with a supervisor explaining I have regsitered with TPS they hang up.        :mad:Proud to be dealing with my debts

Get plenty of these calls. According to the BT Nussiance calls beareu it is a sales call from a foriegn sales company and being registered with TPS or any other call protection service is of no use as the call is coming from abroad and they are spoofing the 01111 number, and they are also operating perfectly legally in line with current UK laws. BT say they are investigating this company through various channels and hope to get the law changed so that even calls from abroad have to obey the TPS system and requests to be removed from the database and not called again. However, until such time as the law gets changed these people can continue to cold call.0

hi. i.ve has this number ringing me for a few days now, and i also believe that its telemarketing to see if i answer, because ive also been getting international calls and unavailable numbers.
i contacted bt who set up my phone with caller i.d, if you have a caller display on your phone then its free and you can screen who's calling you.
any calls that say " unavailable" international" or " 01111" or other numbers that i dont recognise, i just dont answer and i leave it for my answer machine to pick up. 100% of the time they wont leave a message.
its annoying at first but they get fed up before you do.
just remember .... every time you answer the phone the person on the other end of these nuisence calls adds to the callers daily bonus quota so by answering youre paying their wages. why should you pay for someone to annoy the hell out of you day after day.0 -
A few months after moving into my flat I had a new phone line connected as it hadn't had one before. Since then I have been receiving loads of phone calls (several a day) from people asking for a woman who I assume was the previous owner of that number.
From these phone calls I have been able to infer that she has / had a business and has debts that are being recalled. I don't want to give the people on the phone too much personal information so many of them refuse to believe that I am not this woman and it can get quite distressing, sometimes they even call back several times the minute I put the phone down prompting me to disconnect my phone from the wall.
When I call 1471 I usually get one of three replies... "the caller witheld their number", "we do not have the caller's number" or "telephone number 01111..." which turns out te be unrecognised.
Initially the people from number 01111 said that this woman had debts with one of their associates and refused to believe I wasn't her, but since I perhaps foolishly told them my first name (I wouldn't give my full name) they are now insisting that these debts are mine (which is blatently not true as my only debts are with the student loans company and a small agreed overdraft with which the bank is happy) so when I pressed them for who the debts are with the person on the phone got very evasive claiming that it was with one of their associates and they have many associates. Thankfully they don't have my address as the woman lived elsewhere and I have refused to give them my address.
I'm not really sure where to go with this as it appears to be more than one company calling me and the numbers and addresses on here for the 01111 calls are the only contacts I have. Does anyone have any suggestions as to an appropriate course of action I could take? I'm already ex-directory (and have never been in a phone book) and registered with tps. Thanks for reading, I know it's been a bit of a rant... oh there goes the phone again.0 -
Why not ask to whom they would like the cheque made out to and what address they'd like it sent to?
Then you'll have the necessary details to give to the police when you report harassment.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. My mum received a string of calls from an 0908 number. As soon as she picked up the call, it hung up. Probably an autodialler.
Fortunately, my mum had the good sense not to call back to see who had rung!
And after the same number apeared on her caller display, she didn't bother to pick up.
Unfortunately, it's a numbers game and there will always be a small percentage of people who fall for the scam.0
