People lose their life savings to these scammers. Advanced Fee fraud is centuries old, but is now far more prevalent with the advent of the internet and e-mail.

I was sorry to hear about Derek as well. You are having a really rough time and the money will certainly come in handy to pay the funeral bills and the wake afterwards. I have a new hobby! Instead of just ignoring and deleting 419 emails I've set up a new email address ("Albert Tatlock") especially for correspondence with these chaps - currently in conversation with an executive director of a chinese bank (with $32 million up for grabs) and asking him for advice about hemorrhoid creams. I hope I can keep him interested long enough to get a photo.
