    Great story btw.

Hopefully not! I am corresponding with the same scammer using two e-mail addresses. But no messages from him so far today.

Following the death of my brother Derek, I am unable to respond to e-mails until 8th March.

    Derek is dead? :(

He promised me $15,000,000 in his will if only I could pay the Western Union transfer fee.

    unholyangel...

Fraud is a way of life for many in West African countries in order to perpetuate a lifestyle they enjoyed when engaged in mainstream business pursuits (often Petroleum). Fraud is now Nigeria's second biggest export after petroleum!

And why cannot the FBI spell? Surely, it would be MONETARY (not MONITORY).

So this type of email actually STICKS sometimes? I mean there must be some people who fall for it....

People lose their life savings to these scammers. Advanced Fee fraud is centuries old, but is now far more prevalent with the advent of the internet and e-mail.

I suggest you register you interest in his estates then, but I will contest your claim in Court, until my dying day!
  • Oh dear - Paul, can I lend you the 55$ to get dear dear Diplomat out of wherever he is. You can pay me back when you get your 'package' which I know is on its way to you. I was sorry to hear about Derek as well. You are having a really rough time and the money will certainly come in handy to pay the funeral bills and the wake afterwards. Please let me know if you need anything....................!

I have a new hobby! Instead of just ignoring and deleting 419 emails I've set up a new email address ("Albert Tatlock") especially for correspondence with these chaps - currently in conversation with an executive director of a chinese bank (with $32 million up for grabs) and asking him for advice about hemorrhoid creams. I hope I can keep him interested long enough to get a photo.

    It's very moreish.

The mark of success will be if they blacklist your address! :)
