Hoxton Hotel £1 Night

It meant that you were not allowed book more than one room. When you go to select your dates etc, you pull down the menu asking for how many people and how many rooms you would like.
If you were wanting to book a weekend for 2 couples, you couldn't do it on one booking as you were only allowed to book ONE room.
Both couples would have to book their own rooms.
It is confusing - but although people have had emails etc saying one room for £1 for one night and phoned up etc, I still have my rooms for my mum at £1 and my rooms at £29****************************0 -
I'm not behaving like a spoilt child, i'm behaving like an angry consumer trying to both expose the cracks in their service and guilt trip them into improving.
I don't think their website or their details beforehand were ideal.
My first attempt failed but that was only because by the time I got to press the reserve button, the £1 rooms had gone.
Some of the problems were caused by huge demand which was expected and predicted by many.
If you feel there are problem and you want to improve them then my own experience (which is full of many mistakes) is that you are more likely to get people to help you or see your point of view if you are charming rather than just ranting.
There are times when I feel completely justified in ranting but being nice and explaining your position gets you futher.
I ranted recently at some local children (quite justifiably in my opinion as they were causing criminal damage) and all it did was put people's backs up.
People are defensive and sensitive.
I think it's a pain in the a*** sometimes but being charming really does get you further and ranting just puts peoples backs up.
It's taken me about 20 years to work that out, so if you learn anything from it then you'll be way ahead of me.0 -

It's not actually clear from this whether they mean you can only book a room for one night at the £1 rate. However, they do go on to say on their website:
How do I book a second night?
If you have been successful in booking a £1 room, and wish to reserve an additional night please click on standard rates on the book now page, and our other great rates will be displayed. I took this to mean that you could only book one room for one night at the £1 rate, and had to pay standard rates after that, otherwise they would be within their rights to cancel your booking.0 -

Well i didnt manage to make a booking at the £1 rate - i was just curious how you could make a booking for more than 1 night at the £1 rate.0 -

I was lucky - I managed to book a £29 room in April for me and OH, and a £1 room in Jan to give to M&D as xmas pressie (cheap I know). However, a lot of people are saying that those who got rooms aren't complaining - well, I got one and I think the website was dreadful. I had the same trouble as everyone else with the error message, and only tried rejecting the flash site and going to HTML out of frustration. Just because you got the deal doesn't stop it being a bad system. I'm sorry to those who missed out.
On an amusing note, in my haste to fill the forms in I have managed to register my address as being in Afganistan rather than UK! The hotel tells me it won't be an issue when checking in ;-)
BTW, does anyone know - it says on confirmation email that they can refuse entry if the people checking in aren't accompanied by the person whose name is on the reservation - I want to give the room to my parents as I say, and I did include that and their names in the "other info" box - do you think that will be OK?
Rocky
you need to show id when you check in and this needs to be in the name of the person making the booking, so if your das got the same name then ull be ok0 -
I still have my rooms for my mum at £1 and my rooms at £29
You have them right now, but according to their Ts&Cs they will cancel your bookings.
Just because they haven't done it within 2 hours, doesn't mean they won't.
I hope they don't but I'm just alerting you to what it says.
Someone rang up beforehand to clarify this (think it's on page 2).0 -

Hang on, I stupidly enough managed to book 2 rooms at £1. same night for two people, so will they cancel both of them or what? Of course they reserve to do that but will they? Do I get my money back then? Can I keep one room and not the other?0

Thanks lisyloo.
There are so many ways to take their T & C's and I see that they would cancel your bookings if you have more than one room for X amount of nights, but I only have one room @ £1 and if you weren't allowed a £1 room for more than a night, then surely the system wouldn't allow you to book 3 nights.
They wouldn't cancel it X amount of hours down the line.
What they would do, is check your reservations and if you got MORE than one room @ £1 cancel them - which is fair enough, as there was nothing stopping someone booking 5 room @ £1 and giving them to their mates.
It's all very confusing****************************0
