These cheques are nice. I like the NatWest one0 -
In the US you can goto 3rd party printers and have them print customised cheques for your account with just about any design you can think of on them.
Don't know why they've not come up with that idea over here. Oh yes I remember now.....they want to kill off the cheque in this country don't they!!0 -
I heard somewhere (don't know how true it is) that provided all the correct information was written down, anything could be a cheque - even an egg.Not as green as I am cabbage looking0

But at least they could make an on the spot decision, unlike the jumped up, fresh out of University, sales teams that we get now.
Really not sure what that answer is based upon.
In my area of 20 Branches, there are none of us who are Graduates.
It is sad that we can no longer make decisions, but computers do tend to make better ones that is a fact of life.
In the past, the chances of you getting a facility agreed were directly related to factors such as if you were in the same golf club/the masons/took the Manager out for a nice slap up lunch all expenses paid.
The main lending criteria was around Character (did you like the person and think they would be a good "egg" and pay us back).
Therefore if the Manager knew you socially then that was always going to be in your favour!0 -

It can be, although in practise if you did do that with an egg your bank would probably refuse to take it. Usually they get processed as special presentations, with the attendant fee charged.urs sinserly,

Bad debts have gone way, way down since computerised decisions were introduced. People sneer at the use of them but for banks it's an absolute no brainer. They can either rely on a bank manager's decision and have goodwill or they can use a computerised decision and save (potentially) millions on bad debt.
Keep in mind also the possibility of a clerk being bribed, committing fraud, being conned, granting loans for family/friends indiscriminately, not seeking enough documentation etc or on the whole just having sh*te judgment. A credit scoring process takes this all out of the picture. At the same time, it also removes the need for branch and call centre staff to be trained in judgmental lending, thus again lowering costs. Even more usefully, it makes it easier to focus the business (e.g. too many loans out? Adjust the credit scoring so they score more harshly.) and increases profits.
If you were running a business, you'd consider it a no brainer too.urs sinserly,

In the US you also pay for those cheques - you don't have the option to get the cheques free from your bank.0
