As the above post proves, the problem is with Biscit/V21.
They are deliberately slowing the dial-up right down.0 -
Since my earlier post @ 14:10 (about 40 or 50 dial-ups ago - it's taken me 3 hours to get a connection where MSE works at normal speed) I've found out a bit more about the problem (well at least the one I've got)
When IE opens and is trying to display a page and it takes an absolute age - IT IS "something" to do with the website in question.
For instance ,as I've already said, it has taken 40-50 dialups over 3 hours, to get to a point where I can use MSE at normal speeds (working OK at this instance) However in the meantime on "BAD" MSE connections I've accesssed Curry's website OK and also Maplin's at perfectly normal speeds.
Also when trying to download emails in Outlook Express, it has connected to my various mailboxes and been OK for some and died a death on others. Earlier it connected to Wanadoo and received 20 emails in a few seconds, but immediately afterwards with Freeserve, took over 3 minutes to establish that there where 30 emails wating to be collected. I stopped it after 5 minutes when it was still downloading the first. This was the same for the next 20 odd dial-ups. Then suddenly I can't access Wanadoo properly but Freeserve's 30+ emails are downloaded in under a minute.
With this inconsistancy in mind I thought about "going back to basics" and went to the DOS Command Prompt for a PING or two.
When MAPLIN was working OK, a ping command for https://www.maplin.co.uk returned ALL FOUR pings with a response time of 140 milliseconds. At the same time a ping for https://www.moneysavingexpert.com (not working) at the very best LOST 3 of the 4 pings, often all 4 failing to return in time resulting in 4 x REQUEST TIMED OUT messages.
At this minute with a working MSE, I can ping MSE and get all 4 pings back in a response time of 150 or 160 milliseconds.
However at the same time Maplin is no longer working, although Google is, and guess what, if I try to ping Maplin, most pings return "REQUEST TIMED OUT" with only the occasional one getting back.
If anyone actually SPEAKS to someone at V21/Biscit - this info might just be useful in getting them to recognise a fault and diagnose it a bit quicker.
As for me I'm just off to the cinema for a free showing of BABEL.
Back at 22:00 - if I can get a working MSE dialup !!!There are 10 types of people in the world. ‹(•¿•)›(11)A104.28S94.98O112.46N86.73D101.02(12)J130.63F126.76M134.38A200.98M156.30J95.56J102.85A175.93

I agree 100% with your post regarding speed .
I've just posted on the BIscit/v21 forum, but basically I'm tying Opera as a Browser this can be set to show the actual speed a page is loading ,this afternoon I gave up because while the connection showed 32kbps the pages of various sites were loading at about 60 bps .
Compare that to now with a relatively slow 33kbps but pages loading at approx 3.0kbps i.e 50x faster.
Just tried to get on https://www.speedtest.net -given up waiting it was loading at 249b/s --lifes too short!
p.s. I even tried my Tiscali account (using https://www.18185) I gave up waiting for an email to download from my Tiscali address.
p.p.s.just tried updating my AVG the 202kb are going to take 1hr 27min at the present rate (as low as 49bps) time for bed I think!Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Hi all, Happy New BB Year! NOT!
I've not had time to read all the above posts so forgive me if I'm talking at cross purposes.
Can any of you tell me...(soon because I'm about to get kicked off this pc), if you too have been signed up to BISCIT without your consent and have now got active service on your line, which you cannot use??
Previously I thought when they applied the cease, that I would be able to transfer to any provider without a MAC code, now I'm back to the same situation once again, where I need to contact BISCIT...@#! Earth to Mars Come in???! OVER. (B easier to raise the dead...than contact those $ankers@$%$)
If any of you are in the same boat and being given the run around between BT, Netservices V21 and BISCIT, can you let me know and advise me what is being done or what to do.??
I was on to BT today and they said I should complain to ofcom and that I should make an Ufair Trading Complaint. However, how I do this I do not know. Apparently that is the next step. I've also asked for a DEADLOCK letter from Biscit..but that will likely fall on deaf ears.!
Is it just me or are OFCOM as useful as a chocolate tea pot???!!
They always tell me that they are "investigating".....what their navel fluff?????!!!!! scre@m!!!!0 -
There is now a facility to make your complaint known on the Biscit/V21 Update Page here>>>

Not that they are any likely to respond to it any more now than they did before!!!0 -

Well finally I've got a response re my MAC code from Biscit, who after I wrote a letter, and emailed and faxed, now tell me that to get my MAC code I need to guess what..."write a letter" ! ha hilarious NOT. Oh and then to add insult to injury, apparently I have to pay £35 in order to disconnect myself from a service which I never wanted, never requested and have been trying for several weeks to use!! even more Hilarious.. Hats off to the poor guy in provisioning whose first day it was on 8/1/2007 and had to listen to me complain..darlin..u need to get a new job!!!
if anyone else has successfully left BISCIT...aka HOTEL CALIFORNIA..do let me know how much it cost in the end...?? ta ta..
love and best wishes for 2007...
POWER TO THE PEOPLE AN ALL THAT..0 -
