  • Would you believe it just checked my email and v21 have sent me another "Account on Hold" email!? Exactly the same as the previous one.
  • Bishopsgate (and others) - V21/Biscshit took £84.99 from my CC in October and other free dips in Nov which I am disputing. My reckoning for phone calls and adsl would be more in the £15-20 region. I've sent a recorded delivery mail (2nd time) cancelling my account to the biscit head office. Once I'm back on BB (newnet), I'll be more proactive in hassling them for my money back, but as I am alternating between using the local library and the free intermittent dialup, I have too many other bits of angst to sort out.

My view is that any company which has such a useless accounting system, in my view borderline fraudulent, and seems to think that my (and several other peoples') accounts are really their piggy bank, to be dipped in at will, are not a company I want to give my custom to.
  • Julian - 2 things.

    1) Likewise they took two payments from my debit card during Oct for £85.85 two days running. They tried to take a further £75 in late Nov but after emailing them they agreed it wasn't right, refunded one of the Oct payments and agreed to investigate the Nov invoice and defer to Dec. Looking back over the last 6 months the payments have been erratic - first few months either nothing or bare £9.98 charge (excl additional bandwith or Freetalk) and then last two months were £75 and £85 as explained above. Provided I hear nothing else about the £75 they're investigating then we're about right regards payment over the last 6 months. I've since cancelled my debit card so they can't get any more cash easily.

    2) Get over to Newnet asap - what's taking you? I signed up 10 mins after the cease and was back up and running with hardly any delay, despite them saying it would take up to 10 days:rolleyes: Maybe the variable streaming isn't fully set up yet but it's still quick enough meantime.

I guess it's no solace that we're both in the same boat, Infiltrator.

I did check with Newnet this morning but they said that the BB was not back on and to check again tomorrow.

Well all is up and running now, but I had hassle with my new e mail address, had to ring Newnet and set it up over the phone. As I had filled in a form this may have caused problems, as I was not sure when we would get cut off and actually sent it off on 28 November. So I did not do it over the net.Anyway, all ok now. Very helpful chap, and very patient whilst I set it up. Regards oap Our official date of actually going on is 11 December. That is why my computer was on the net with newnet but the e mail had not got sorted. Thanks again everyone for input, regards oap
  • I've had the 'threatening' emails too but also today a letter saying that their recent DD failed (well I'd cancelled the manadate...) but could I send them a cheque instead for £2 for the Freetalk monthly minimum charge.

I have already signed up with another CPS telephone provider (the migration is due shortly) but presumably at least some of my calls are still being routed via FreeTalk - who are in the invidious position of having to rely on V21 to collect their payments!

You might be better getting a free independent email account such as gmail, hotmail or yahoo and don`t reply on your ISP`s one.

I should have migrated back to BT on 1st Dec (so as to use the Orchid dialler) but someone (V21 or Freetalk?) migrated me to them again without my knowledge.

OAP, I have to totally agree with alared on this one. Back in 2000 I was with Netscapeonline as an ISP and with their email service when they ceased trading and it put me in all sorts of trouble. Since then I've used several web based email accounts which have the added advantage of being able to be accessed wherever you can get internet access and it won't matter if you need to change your ISP again and you can use them as POP mail too. I've been with Yahoo, and Hotmail since 2000 and gmail/googlemail well over a year now and I must admit I prefer them by far.
  • julianj1 and Infiltrator, it probably won't help much but I noticed from the v21 Terms and Conditions kindly provided by GuessWho that the only way v21 will accept a cancellation of the account is through the Customer Portal - which is why it probably won't help much

I did wonder if you can get through on this whether that might make their weird accounting system actually work for you.
