    my error message is ox800cc79
logging on to smtp.v21.co.uk server.....relaying denied.still totally stuck and unable to send mail tho can receive it.
    any help appreciated.
  • I think the reason we cannot send V21 e-mails is that V21 have locked out their SMTP server to non V21 connections (The Netservices broadband connection is no longer linked to V21), you can probably still send e-mails if you use the V21 dial up number, but it may be advisable to change your e-mail to a web based account temporarily (Lycos is good if used in conjunction with Outlook Express).

Has anyone had any luck in contacting V21 at all? They are not responding to any of my e-mails and I have given up trying to ring them!

I'm having the same problem again myself:mad:

I thought I had fixed this earlier as well.

What is going on? Is this a V21 thing??
  • Yesterday's Ofcom notice mentioned that "...though this broadband connection will not link through to V21 or its ISP services."

Presumably this could explain why you are having some difficulties sending emails (receiving is not usually a problem)? Perhaps best to access emails via dialup if that was working before the BB came back? In any case, the BB service will be gone - once and for all - in a couple of days.

  • My email worked even though the BB didnt
    I had 5 accounts , 3 worked and 2 didnt

My BB hasnt come back on  I reconnected the modem to check and am now on dial up.
The mail is just the same, 3 work 2 dont.

If the BB finishes for good in a couple of days, does this mean v21 will not be taking anymore payments ? It'll be a pig to get any money back if they do !

  • My emails receive but do not send? I am confident now that this is V21 server relaying issues as mentioned above. I will use dial-up for sending them instead as V suggests. Thanks V.

I also have a new question:-

When our BB ceases in a couple of days and the line is clear, how long will it take before a new BB provider can re-install the service?

Will there be a period of down time with no web connection at all? Because I assume V21 will cease our free dial-up backup?

Does anyone have any advice on how to minimize this down time if there is one.

Is it a good idea to make contact with a new BB provider now? Also, if a mad person like myself is prepared to stay with V21, how do we let them know??

    Soo many questions...
  • Guys, I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but.....

I only used V21 for Broadband (okay, plus Freetalk) my email account is through https://www.oneandone.co.uk We set up our own domain a few years ago - done nothing at all with it but we do have a number of email addresses attached to the domain and these continue to work regardless who our ISP is.

I know it might seem daunting to some to set up their own domain, but it was actually a piece of !!!! and only costs us something like £10/year to have our own emails.

We had planned to do something with the domain but the £10/year is worth it for peace of mind for our emails.

Plus if we move ISP we keep our email addresses.
  • Maybe i'm being thick here, but Netservices are currently supplying us with BB correct? Not V21 right?

Soo, surely on OE we should be correcting our smtp server supplier to read whatever Netservices smtp address would be. Is that right?

Well, I don't know and I don't need to know as I'm on dial up. However my guess, for what it's worth (- probably not much) is that Biscit will now be concentrating on fixing the problems with the members page so that people can log into their accounts. Also I would be expecting them provide proper access facilities for those who might wish to use their BB service. So I would see whether they produce such a facility after the weekend.

Yes, as I understand it, the situation for BB users is that they have never really been V21butreallyBiscit customers but V21 expected them to be and are making the free dial up number available to them while the situation is sorted (hopefully!).

If you can use email I think you'd find it is being made available by V21, not Netservices (but I could easily be wrong). In any case, if you do not continue with V21 that email address will cease to work. In the meantime my suggestion (again, for what it's worth) is to give up on that email for a while and get another one (do a search for free email) for now and which you could then retain as a reserve.

I agree with the concept but £10/year??? Go to http://www.lowcostnames.co.uk/, which I use, and it's £7.50 for 2 years.

Like you, I just have a domain name so I can have an unchanging email address which I can forward to whatever 'real' email address I like (and change from time to time). Works very well.
