I have received a letter from Barclays (following my letter saying that I would take them to court if I didn't get my money back) saying that they are investigating my complaint and they will fully investigate my complaint and aim to find a solution within four weeks and if they're not able to, they will write to me explaining what's happening and will send me a full report or update within eight weeks.

I assume this is just a delay tactic but should I give them the time or should I move on to the next step which is court.

    Can anybody advise me please?

Yes, give them the time, they did the same to me, however I received the second rejection letter earlier, don't worry too much about the second letter it is a standard reply for Barclays, :cool:they might offer you some money, DON'T ACCEPT if it is not for the full amount.

MY best advice is to join CAG ConsumerActionGroup @ www.comsumeractiongroup.com

  • I wrote to Barclays to request my Bank statements, but heared nothing, so after 40 days I rang them and complained. As soon as I mentioned the words "bank charges" and "reclaim" they put me through to a "dedicated department" which they have apparently set up because they are being innundated with letters requesting bank statements.

1 week later, hey presto, 5 years worth of statements (I've only been with them 5 years). They sent it out in legible microfiche with my £10 cheque back and a note saying that the service is provided free of charge *even though the week before they "hadn't recieved a letter from" me* - hmm!

I got a real shock when I calculated my charges - with interest - to be over £1300  . You bet yr butt I wrote them a letter straight away, which I posted last Friday! I will be gettin that money back, as much of it as I can anyway! Wish Me Luck!!:A

No it wouldn't. I sent them a letter asking for the figure minus interest without prejudice and they ignored it i have since taken them to court for the full amount which they have also ignored.
It doesn't seem you can do anything to make Barclays think your desperate for the money.

So would you send the letter 7 offering a reduced amount as the settlement figure with the "Without prejudice" paragraph? Or am i just wasting my time sending another letter and should just bite the bullet and go down the MCOL route?

    Cheers

Its up to you.. in my personal experience sending a letter to offer a reduced settlement just prolonged the claim time because they didn't respond anyway (losing me another 2 weeks). Knowing what i do now i would have gone straight to MCOL (that can take long enough)
    Barclays - Reclaiming - £3380 - stayed 30/08/07 - £2261 goodwill 20/02/09
    Abbey - Reclaiming £250 - 1st letter - stayed
    MBNA - Reclaiming £400 - received £294
    Morgan Stanley - Reclaiming £138 - received £120
    MINT - reclaiming £110 - received £90
    A&L - £170 charges - £170 back!

    I DO WISH YOU LUCK,

How ever, a word of caution, Do follow the Route advised by this site and CAG = ConsumerActionGroup @ www.comsumeractiongroup.com

    Letter Before Action = LBA.

Try not to accept anything less than the full claim

If you take this the full course - sending a claim to the court either through MCOL or by post be aware it is a long haul, and lots of research on your side. If you are patient, and determined you will win through. Don't be put off by your Banks replies as they are standard. and by asking questions on this site or CAG you will get all the correct advice.

This is my opinion, it is in no way meant as legal advice as I am only a Jo Bloggs.

sorry, but as usual i haven't got the time to go all the way through this thread to see if this has been answered-please humour me!!
sent letter off to barclays 23may to claim back £2000. got acknowledgement of letter by 5th june, saying that they'd recieved it on the 30th <waffle>, and that they would respond to my claim within 2 weeks. i was ok with this, as i was going on holiday anyway. anyway, i've come back... got a letter of them the end of last week apologising and waffling again, saying that they would not give me a response to my claim now until 20th July. What should i do? do i send them any more letters, or do i go for MCOL?

  • Hi

I have an outstanding debt with Barclays Bank plc which in turn has been sold to Hillesden Securities Limited. The outstanding balance is circa 1,600. Hillesden Securities Limited are now legal owners of the debt.

I have added up the total charges applied to my account within the last six years and this basically adds up to the £1,600.

Can I request the bank re-opens my account and refunds all the bank charges ? This would basically erase the debt on record.

What is the opinion on this ?

I have no idea ! I would of thought it would be possible ??

    Please advise !!

    Hello

So far so good, I hope

Sent off for the Statements of charges with the cheque for £10 first week last April.

Recieved copies of my statements with the £10 back, told this service is free of charge.

Statements arrived, two bundles, 1st on the 1st, 2nd on the 4th June.

Letter asking for repayment of charges, £1924.06 inclusive of interest, sent to bank on the 7th July.

Letter from bank as per the standard, so it seems, four to eight weeks etc. arrived on the 15th.

Now waiting for the next episode.

    this is ridiculous!
i have again phoned Barclays on the 0845 6090806 number and they know nothing of my case and keep bringing up a letter they sent me in april... i have had nothing else since even though they only have 4 more days to defend. I have rung every litigation number i can find through out these threads and not one has helped. None of the direct lines answer and now i'm getting annoyed. How comes everyone else seems to get 'happy helpful' barclays employees and i seem to get the work experience students?????
i get very very annoyed now
