Do you fasten your seatbelt for every journey?.....really?......I don't

  • ALWAYS wear your seatbelt!!!!! As a young child I was sat in the backseat of our car wearing a seatbelt. My Dad slid off the roads due to icy conditions and it resulted in my arm being broken. What could have happened if I wasn't wearing a seat belt?? Dread to think...
Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend...

  • If I'm at work and I have to keep getting in and out the van I don't always then forget when I'm going on a longer trip but usually just put it on. It's just what you do really isn't it?
Nothing to see here, move along.

when someone is fined for not wearing a seatbelt is there points put on the licence? if not then maybe they should be .then their ins premium could adjusted in line with the risks as not doing something so simple would indicate a lack of care .

Not quite, you can legally reverse a car without wearing a seat belt.

There are a few other exemptions as well.
Erm, that's what I said! Or meant...

Not all my cars have seatbelts, but I always wear one if there is one fitted.

    Seems daft not to.

Nope just a £30 fine. You can't exactly give a 14 year old points. That's the age at which the responsibility stops being with the parent/driver.

I know someone who got points when he got caught driving a stolen dumper truck at age 14.

    Yes always,
I lived in S.africa for a couple of years where seatbelt weatring was not required or widely practised (roads and driving standards were also very variable) in two years my wife and I knew personally six people who were killed in car accidents. In fifteen years over here we've known plenty of people who've had acccidents but they all survived. I know my close friend in SA who died was not wearing a seatbelt. The guy with him was wearing a belt and suffered bad brusing to his chest. He walked away formthe acccident. The TV camera strapped in behind them was undamaged. It's that simple. A crash at 30mph provides enough kinetic energy to smash a human body (ie kill) when it either impacts with the frame of the vehicle or, more likley, goes through the windscreen.
Anyone who thinks it's not worth a second's effort to belt up is too stupid to be allowed out alone!
Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!

    Probably just laziness.....

Apart from the obvious risk to myself (and that irksome 'law' stuff), am I really doing anything that bad?

For the record, I always wear it on the m-way and on most country roads. It's just around town, really, that I sometimes find it annoying and may 'forget' to put it on for a bit. I do always insist on any passengers buckling up, btw.

    Thoughts?

There are several thoughts to this. First, many people will consider, "why should we abide by the law and you get away with it?"

Secondly, it is not fair on the poor beggars who have to scrape you off the inside of your car and pull bits of your flesh from around the windscreen, bonnet, dashboard, steering wheel etc.

Thirdly, if you don't do it every time, there will be that one time you forget and which will be the very same journey you have a head-on collision, with that forty-four ton truck.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

Indeed you did, sorry I missed it, however as I said there are a few more exceptions.
