Interesting. I had my offer letter on 6th June, sent the acceptance form back the same day. I'm still waiting for the money to appear! Maybe they just need a prod - Carol, what phone number did you use when you chased them up? There seem to be lots of numbers to choose from...

    Hi everyone,

when I was at uni 1999-2002 i was quite irresponsible with my natwest account and had a heck of a lot of charges for unpaid cheques, direct debits etc. I wrote a letter to Natwest on April 18 2007 requesting my statements for the last six years, I knew that I would be only able to claim from april 2001-april 2007, but I was sure that at the end of may and June 2001 I had about £300 of charges for a number of things. Natwest have been stalling in sending me my statements, on the 35 day after I sent my request I received a letter from Natwest, signed by Joyce Tudor, which said that I needed to include a £5 fee for this service, I had already icluded a £10 postal order with my original letter, and also I was asking for statements from another account so £10 would cover both accounts. She said the 40 day period would not start until they had the correct info. Very frustrated I sent a reply stating I had already given all the info they required and that if I had not received the statements within another ten days I would report them to the information commisioner, 20 days later I am still waiting for any further correspondence. Please can anyone advise me what to do next and secondly does anyone know from what point I can reclaim my charges, six years from the day I sent my initial letter requesting my statements, which would bring it back to April 18 2001 or when Natwest finally send me my statements would it be from the point when I make my official request to reclaim the charges. If it is the latter it means I have missed over £300 in charges which I could have definitely claimed if Natwest had got their finger out, so to speak, and sent me my statements within the 40 day period. Any help on these matters would be gratefully appreciated. Many thanks, Matt.

    Hi matt

I am having the similar problem. I have gone past the 40 day period so i sent another letter saying I want my charges within the next 5 days and still nothing.

Also I have just found out They have not even cashed the £20 cheque for the two accounts I am claiming for.

What I have done is called my local branch and I have a meeting with them tomorrow and I am going to present all my letters and the recorded delivery ticket and hopefully get my statements.

I personally think they are trying every stalling tackit going.

    Hey here is my situation

I have sent the first letter off to natwest with a £20 cheque for 2 accounts I am claiming for.

I have not heard from Natwest for 40 days so I sent another letter saying that I want my charges and statement within the next 5 days and still I have not heard anything.

I have also just found out that they have not taken the £20 out of my account for the statements and charges.

    What should I do next?

    Many Thanks

Hi Matt - not to send you information within the 40 days is a breach of regulations and should be reported to the Ombudsman - some of the posts on here suggest that this is taken very seriously and the Banks' knuckles are rapped and it may mean your refunds come through more quickly. BUT I don't think you can proceed to claim through the courts if the Ombudsman's office take up your case.

    Amount claimed: £1037 + about £100 interest
    Amount offered: £1037

I sent my first letter on April 21st and second letter two weeks later. Was told on the phone that it would take 8 weeks from April 21st (until June 21st) before I would receive an offer - received a letter today offering the full amount (without interest, but well...). I'm going to send the confirmation form recorded tomorrow and fax it as well.

Good luck to everybody else - I'm going to send off paperwork to the financial ombudsman for two other claims.

    :T Hi MSE crew.

    straight to the point:

    1. opened natwest account (2003)
    2. Balance £0. wanted overdraft, didnt use acount much as wages now paid into barclays. agreed to gold acount thinking id get overdraft if i switched my wages. didnt bother switching wages. charged £12 a month for gold account.(2006)
    3. recieve letters saying iv been charged for going overdrawn, (due to gold acount charge,) so i thort screw that and let it carry on tryin to forget about it cos i knew there charges werent really enforceable.
    4. recieve letter saying acount will be closed and if cards not returned some guys will come and get it which will cost ya £125. screw that.(2007)
    5. ring them up, acount is £303 overdrawn. i explain to the guy their charges are illegal, he tells me there not, blah blah blah usual bullsh*t.
i say how much is it with just the £12 a month gold acount which iv not used, and he said about £88, plus interest of about £20! which makes it sumwhere around about £114 i think he said.

so i said well can i pay it monthly, im only 19 working part time. he said yeh ok over 4 month u will pay £28 summet into the account and when this is recieved we will forget about the £188 worth of charges.

so i think ok so i tell the guy right il do and it was as simple as that, i made sure id get a confirmation letter off them an that in the post.

then when i put the phone down i realised before i even opened the gold acount part of my normal acount i used it alot, and im sure i got about 3/4 charges of about £30. i paid these aswell so if i say to them well iv already been charged ya little n0bs give me this money back and il pay off the gold acount £12 a month.

also can i get rid of the interest somehow?? £20 odd they can do one lol.

help if u can cheers peeps:T
