  • Hi,
I have recently written to Natwest to claim back my charges using the letters templates from this website. Initially they wrote back to say they were looking into it and would contact me in due course (that was about 10 days ago). I have now had a letter from them today to say that it will take them 6-7 weeks to respond due to the nature of my claim.

Is this normal?? And is this ok? Do I just wait for a reply or should I write back and give them a deadline??!!

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

Also has anyone been successful with Natwest? It seems as though they are a tough bank!

Haven't you already given them a deadline?
Hamsters have no tact and diplomacy, nor do they want any.

Stick to the timetables set out on the main site
As Martin says you are the one who sets the times for this not the bank
As for success well we are just about to accept an offer from the natwest which if they are good to their word will only leave us about £400 short of the £5000 originally asked for
Received £4541 reclaimed from Natwest :j:T

Called mcol who said that all i needed to do was call them if i wanted to stop the claim (i would lose my £120 though)
Called natwest cru and after reading the boards here was very plesantly suprised to find myself talking to an extremely polite, friendly and helpful lady by the name of Lorraine who told me that if i accepted the offer the norm was for it to be in my bank within a week i could at the same time tell them about any charges made between the time of the first letter and the time of the offer and again it was the "norm" for natwest to refund these at the same time as they pay the offer into my account
because of this i feel it would be stupid not to accept the offer i am taking the money and running (wont stop mcol until i have the readies though lol ;) )
This means i will only be losing about £400 but gaining £4500 oh and they wont refund me the £120 i paid for my mcol claim  :j :T

That's good. At least your sorted. My claim is for less than £80, and the charge I paid MCOL was £30, which is more than a third of the claim.

Seeing as Natwest have persistently mucked me about by neglecting my letters, (apart from when I filed the claim, they decided to offer my the money), I think I will play them at their own game. Ignore their offer letter and let it run through the courts anyway, that way, I'll make them pay my legal fee too. I'm sick of their attitude, so I'm going to make this as miserable for NatWest as possible, as they did to me.

Dont know what is happening with my claim as the only thing i have had from Natwest was my statements, i wrote back to them with the amount of £553.74 on the 15th April, and didn;t get a reply so i sent the follow up letter on the 2nd May saying that the have 14 days before i start court procedings and i have just got back from hols and still nothing at all. Should i start court procedings or try and get hold of a phone number and try ringing them to find out what's happening?

If anyone has got the correct phone number to ring that would be great.

  • I gave them 14 days to reply as suggested in the original letter which has already expired but they have then obviously come back with this latest reply.

So should I now send another letter threatening to take them to court?

Did Natwest reply to anyone else saying it would take them 6/7 weeks to look into it? If so what did they do?

    Thanks!!
  • Hi,

It's the Customer Relations Unit that is dealing with the Natwest charges and their phone number is: 0800 015 4212 but it's almost impossible to get through!

Or this is the number for their customer care team who are dealing with sending out bank statements: 0845 6000 709

I was given this number 08453030456 and it put me straight through to a department specifically designed to deal with just charge enquiries and take the pressure of their lending team.
    They were actually quite helpful.

    Give it a try!

Yes, they did this with me. Apparently its the time they have to respond to a claim according to the Financial Standards Authority, thats what they told me anyway.
I have decided to give them this time with the deadline being 7th June.
They have assured me they will have the settlement figure with me by then, it might be worth calling this number as it was they who I spoke to regarding this and finding out when the 8 weeks deadline date is.

  • So did you write bank to them after they told you 6 weeks and give them a deadline or did you just phone them?

I'm not sure what to do because obviously they do need some time to verify the charges I suppose?
