Has anyone else had to send the bailifts in with Natwest, we really did'nt want to take it this far, we won and we gave Natwest plenty of time to pay us, then we phoned them and they told us they would not speak to us and so we took it to the next stage, its tomorrow that the bailifts will go to our local branch and get the money(wish i could watch!!), we phoned MCOL yesterday and they said this was rare and we r the first in our area.. and i have looked on the boards but can't find much info on this ...
    goodluck everyone with your claims...

Sadly, when the banks don’t defend a claim, they don’t always pay up automatically even though they’ve lost. Whilst mention of bailiffs isn’t normally the most cheerful subject on this site, let’s happily make an exception. If the bank doesn’t pay, you’ve a right to send the bailiffs in to claim the money; a number of people have exercised this option, and again it’s easy to do via the Moneyclaim site.

If you are doing that, I’d love to send a photographer to record such a moment; please e-mail press@moneysavingexpert.com and let us know (please do not email this address with general queries though, it's only for photos).

  • Hi I have sent a claim in for £5200 and have sent 2 letters to them by recorded delivery. Stuck on what to do next it all seems very complicated. Do you have to pay the court fees upfront before taking it to court???

Yes you do. See here for information on whether you may be eligible for exemption or be able to claim remission from costs here:
    http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/fees/county.htm

Scroll to the bottom of the page.

You can of course refer the matter to the Financial Ombudsman for free but you must have exhausted the banks complaints procedure to do so. In other words their last letter must be their final word on the subject and state as such. Good luck in your claim :)

Hi after sending my first letter asking for my bank statments from NATWEST i recieved them in no time at all. However i then went onto sending my first template letter telling them i want to reclaim my bank charges, but i heard nothing but i was told this might happen, so i went onto my 2nd letter threatening to take them to court. The 14 day time period has now ran out and i still have not heard anythink. I sent the letters to my local natwest bank, would this make any differents? Or should i carry on with court proceedings? A big thanks to anyone that could help me out.

Hiya, sending to your local branch is fine, I did the same & heard nothing either so I rang Borehamwood & they confirmed they had recieved my letters, so don't worry, carry on with your timescales, good luck!
  • My father and I are both starting out on this journey.

We requested a list of all the charges from our local branch and both received the same thing back; an envelope containg statements only from 2 of the last 6 years and for myself, from only 1 of my 2 accounts. No letter, no explanation - nada.

We are a little confused as to what to do next as we do not have all our charges. I'm guessing we remind them of the deadline for not complying fully and threaten to report them to the commisioner? But should we ring or write - and where? HELP!
  • hello,

Natwest have just sent me cheque for £273.35p, covering all charges to my account, plus interest, plus court fees!!! wooooooo.

i need to stop the court case though but i m unsure how to do this using moneyclaim? do i have to write a letter???

    cheers.

    hi guys,

cheers for the help so far. Just a little extra help.

I am claiming £1264.38, I called the number above just to check on the status of my refund, the lady said they had received all my letters and the claim is for £900 and some thing pounds? They said that I had includes some none refundable charges. (strange), I have now sent the letter saying they have 14days or its off to court.

Were do I stand if i have added incorrect charges?

I have also received no letters from Natwest either.

    cheers

    Hi everyone,

Stick with it as they have now also paid up on my husbands account as well.

So that is victory to us in the region of £10,500 together.

Well done, congratulations! Can I ask how long it took from 1st letter to receiving your money? Also did you get to the court process?.
  • Hi

I have completed two claims against Natwest for realtives and they have been the only ones to pay up without question.

Admittedly the amounts were relatively small, but in both cases they paid up after the first letter.

    Keep at it!!
