NatWest (merged)

I wrote to Natwest early Feb asking for my statements with a cheque enclosed. After writing again I finally got a reply last week stating that I hadn't included my account details when I blatantly included these details ( they had sent the original back to me)!
I then sent them a note explaining I will not be put off by "delay tactics" as I think they know they will owe me a few thousand pounds over the years as I was being charged £150+ each month resulting in an overdraft of £1750 and interest added so they had eventually closed my account and continued charging interest when I was paying it off (they promised they'd freeze the interest).
Now I can't even join a new bank as I keep being rejected once they do credit checks and see Natwest, so I have been using my partners' account for the last few years.
Please can someone tell me where I stand legally and whether they are likely to pay this money back to me - Can they refuse and tell me it's my own fault the account is closed and owe me nothing or do I keep fighting? Many thanks:rolleyes:0 -

If you follow the Step by step guide on this site you should be able to claim all of your charges back. Please read both links in my signature carefully.0 -

Can I just ask what your thoughts are on verbal offers? is it, in your opinion, advisible to wait to get the offer letter even though Natwest have a backlog & it's taking longer than normal to process claims, or carry on with the next stage keeping to my timescales? feel free to PM me if this is better for you. Many thanks.0 -
Wonder why they wouldn't confirm my offer amount, when I rang? The woman I spoke to said she wasn't allowed to give out that information
As for yours sounding tired...... not half as tired as I am with Natwest :rotfl:
I've no sympathy for them!

Morning Matey,
what's your thoughts on this verbal offer thing?0 -
After reading the bank charges stories I decided to investigate myself. I got all my statements and it worked out that I had been charged over £2500 in charges and interest, so I put the wheels in motion on the 13th March with the first letter asking for a refund and heard nothing so last friday I sent the 2nd letter givig them 14 days to pay up or I would start court proceedings.
Have still heard nothing so today I rang Natwest just to make sure they had received my letters (as I had hand delivered them to my branch.) They put me straight through to credit management, who said they hadnt received the letters and I should of sent them to them as they are holding my account. They said that my balance is still £1000 but if I can pay in the next 28 days they will accept a settlement "deal" of £500. But when I enquired further about my charges complaint, the very rude lady said that the amount I quoted her as being owed (the £2700) was no where near any charges I had been charged and that the stories in the news were only about charges being charged whilst in debt with the bank nothing else. Basically I think she was saying that I was not entitled to claim for a refund in charges as my account is with credit management, i think, it was all very confusing.
Finally the banks 14 days that I gave them to refund the charges is up next week, do I continue with court proceedings or not??
Anna, if you hand delivered the letters, do you have the name of the person you gave them to? Did they give you a receipt? It sounds like the bank may have (deliberately?) lost the letters.
If the second letter was sent by recorded post, do you have proof of delivery?0 -

I declined for two reasons:
1. The interest was not included (I can live without that)
but mostly
2. I want control of the money due aka a cheque to pay of my debt when and how I want.
I know about the banking fraud and it's just numbers on a piece of paper for them.
In my decline, I gave my reasons and requested a cheque over the sum before I accept.
The next letter was already on it's way to file my claim.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I suspect they will simply pay and destroy your credit rating by an adverse comment. Frankly, I think you are looking for far too much. They have offered your charges back, clearly you have been a very poor customer (account with credit management) and now you are looking to gain from a healthy (tax free) interest rate!!!!0

They have annoyed me and I wasn't going to worry recaliming all my charges but I have now decided to go for it. They have charged me £105 for paying 3 cqs and a further £38 for returning one cq even though funds were tfrd the day before to cover these items from a savings account with them!!
Just a quick question they have refunded charges back in November as I complained - will they say I can't have the last 6 years worth refunded? I don't know how much it will be but would imagine it will be at least £1k, if not nearer £1500.
Also are they now demanding you amend your account to the one with no overdraft and you only have a cashcard?
Also how quickly are the responding now - will be sending 1st letter on tuesday.0 -
Morning Matey,
what's your thoughts on this verbal offer thing?
Hi there buddy!
I don't really do 'verbal'
The only good thing about it was that they hopefully don't want to drag things out by going through the MCOL process. But... I don't think the left hand knows what the right is doing at old natwest. Til I get the offer in writing, I'm sticking to the timescales. Every time I think 'well, they're busy, I'll give them a bit more time' I remember the hell they put me through a few yrs ago when they wouldn't budge an inch over the charges. They're only busy because they're refunding money they dishonestly took off us !!

thanks alot Nickmack, I shall let you know the outcome - they've caused me hardship along with many others so it's only fair that I return the favour to the bank managers! Thanks again and happy Easter
