Hi all,
I am stressed out big time, I am in the process of claiming back charges from Natwest at the moment and every step is painstaking and Natwest are making it as hard as possible!
I had to ask for my statements 3 times! 1st time they said they never recieved it (i sent it recorded delivery) 2nd time they just sent me 1 month in October 2002 and now finally after the 3rd time of asking a month later they sent me the full 6 years.
I have calculated my charges over the years and it equals little over £2000.00 pounds!
will they dig there heels in especially because its alot of money? I think they might have me down as a problem customer as i am always phoning them compaining about there charges to no prevail.
I have sent the letter template off requesting these charges back recorded delivery over a week and a half ago (24th march) and i have not heard a peep!
In the eventually i might have to take them to court what do i do and what if they dont even answer this previous letter i sent them requesting my charges back?! I am really stressed out about this and could do with some help or advice from anyone who has been succesful with Natwest to ease my mind!
My fiancee says it is unlikely i will recieve the money back and i dont want to admit it but i think it might too, though i am going to fight it all the way and get my justice though it is hard....
PLease help or advise em what to do, everyones support would be grateful in this stressful timeDebt Free Plan In Progress! , Natwest Loan £5,552.12, Littlewoods Account £1,184.95, Barclaycard £458.43

if you have a letter from natwest offering you an amount on receipt of the signed letter im sure you can go to your local branch and they will call them and say they have recieved the letter in front of you and fax a copy to them to satisfy them until they get the original, that way your money should go in same day! not 100% sure but ive done similiar things with them before....

you will receive your money back just takes time. banks are making it difficult for most people and letting it get to court stage but remember its YOUR money they have illegally.
get reading the success stories on this forum and it'll soon get you motivated for a fight
banks have Never ever showed up for ANY court cases and are paying up - some banks are making it more difficult than others - so my advise is read succes stories and get motivated and start proceedures to get your money back
good luck0 -
theres quite a few success stories on Natwest - so get reading its the thread a couple above your post. click on view last page and work your way back only a couple of days ago someone gove over a thousand back off natwest
im claiming with lloyds and they seem to be as bad if not worse but i just keep hearing from friends who've had success and people on here and it spurs me on!! lloyds have until 9th april to reply to my letter then its court for them!!
good thing is once you get to court stage yes it costs money to process but you get that back PLUS you get your interest
i'd hand deliver the letter asking for money back to your local branch and would go straight to the letter saying you will take to court if you dont hear within Xamount of days - they give you a guide line on here of 14 but can state less - if you then dont hear back anything just go straight to proceeding with court
im 99.99999999% sure you will get your money back0 -
Hi
Not sure if this will help!!
I sent original letter to Natwest (my branch manager) regarding charges on 26th Feb recorded delivery. Heard nothing after 14 days so sent threatening court action letter, again recorded delivery. Natwest then got a bit sly and refused the recorded delivery letter. So took a copy of the letter to branch and noted who I gave it to, date and time etc.
Again heard nothing  , started to think just my luck, they are going to drag their heals!! Anyway I got the number for Natwest Customer Relations Unit and gave them a call on Friday 30th Mar and they advised me they had received my complaint and that someone would write to me to advise what they were going to offer.
I asked if they had any idea what the offer would be and the guy paused for a few seconds and then gave me the figure! Shocked is an understatement  he told me the offer, which was £200 short of what I'd claimed. I had included the interest but this wasn't being offered. I asked if a confirmation letter would be sent and he advised he'd get it sent out 1st class that day.
Nothing arrived today so called again, was quoted exactly the same figure by a lady today. However she told me that they were so busy it would be at least a fortnight to three weeks before I get my offer letter. They are snowed under and at breaking point, they have had to take on lots more staff and are doing overtime over the Easter weekdend to try to clear some of the backlog. Felt slight guilt for the staff but that soon passed.
Anyway, don't be put of by the amount you are claiming. And don't be afraid to call them up FREQUENTLY. I plan to call everyday just to chase up!!:rotfl: :rotfl:
Not sure if this helps any???
If it does push the button !!0 -

Hi
I have posted my second letter to Natwest with reference to legal action if they do not reply in 14 etc, i still have not recieved any feed back from both the letters i sent to them! Please can you advise me on what i should do next! I have opened my a new bank account and have moved over all my direct debits etc! Just unsure what to do, should i contact natwest again?
I would advise giving them a call. I sent 1st letter 26th Feb and sent follow up letters in the recommended timescale. I had heard nothing so decided I would give them a call. Called Natwest Customer Relations Unit (08000154212 press option 1) to be told they had made a decision and an offer letter would be sent to me. I asked when I should expect to get the letter and the very kind but extremely frazzled lady told me it would be at least a fortnight but more likely longer.
I advised her that I was still going to persue through MCOL and she said most callers say the same thing. She said too many valid claims and not enough staff to deal with the back log!!!0 -
Hi to all, new to the forum!
I'm currently in a battle with the Natwest for around £2200 (with interest). I sent my DPA letter and they received it on the 21st February, giving them 14 days to respond, which they did not. My claim was issued online on the 19th March, giving them until the 9th April to acknowledge. On the 2nd April, I received a letter from them offering me partial settlement, which I shall not be accepting.
I've been using the penaltycharges.co.uk forum but tend not to get very complete responses, so I'm hoping you guys can help me out!
My questions are:
1. Do I have to send off a list of charges and correspondence to the court & Natwest yet? If so, when?
2. Do I have to respond to this offer letter of theirs? If so, is there any particular thing I should mention? I have drafted a response saying that they're quite welcome to settle the full amount out of court, but the fact that they did not respond within the time limit (plus the extra 10 days I gave them) has led me to proceed with court action. Will that do?
3. What is this offer letter about anyway? Is it a stalling tactic or what?
4. With the acknowledgement date - can they send me a letter dated the 9th 2nd class so I get it on the 12th or so and reckon they've acknowledged? Or do I have to receive their acknowledgement, which I presume is in writing, by the 9th?
5. How will I know when they acknowledge and how will I know when and where my case has been allocated, as I filed online?
As you can see, I'm a bit confused! Any help gratefully received!
Cheers! :beer:0 -

I have been working through my claim against Natwest for more than £6.6k since August and on Friday I received a "goodwill gesture" offer of £2.5k.
I have made the decision to reject this and am currently waiting to get paid to complete the next stage at Money Claim.
In total, including interest, I am owed £7.7k, but I am little worried now that I am not going to get anything better than the £2.5k I've been offered.
What would your advice be?
My concern has come because I have read several posts from people who say Natwest have entered a defence and are going to take it all the way.
If this happens I think I would have to drop the claim as there's no way I could afford to risk losing a case and being left with the costs!!!
PLEASE HELP ME. I want to be brave and go all the way but I am a little nervous about ending up with nothing when I have £2.5k guaranteed - I guess this is what the bank want.
I have let the bank ombusman know about my situation with natwest owing me approx £3,500 wich is a rough guide from the statments i have an they told me if i dont get no joy off the bank they themself will take it on for me. it maybe another route you can go done , im still on going with my claim0 -
Natwest has today sent me a letter offering me all my bank charges back as a gesture of good will. In the letter it says if i except the full amount they will credit it to my account. However i am in a IVA and the account in question only allows money to go in. I rang natwest to ask for a cheque and explained that the account was frozen. But they didnt really care about that all they said was even if it went to court
1, they have offered to pay the full amount
2, i still owe them money
Any one got any ideas of how to get around this?
Hi LFC
I was in a very similar position with natwest, although I have an agreement with a debt management company rather than an iVA,
basically my overdraft was at £290, (£100 limit, which is what i owed - the rest were charges) Natwest had put my current account together with what I owed them on a loan, which meant my account was frozen till the loan is paid off. Basically I applied for £1211 to be paid back, they agreed in principle and the monies would return into my account (which i couldnt draw from), I called and was told the same as you that the monies would return directly into my account, even if i tried to pay the £290 off, the account would still remain frozen till loan is cleared, so asking as many people I could, I would simply get the same answer from anyone, that i should accept thier offer and be consoled by the fact that loan would be cleared earlier. I wrote back saying I would be happy to accept offer under the condition that they pay me by cheque, or that they they place £290 into account and send cheque for remainder thus closing account, they declined this and advised I had 10 days to accept or offer would be withdrawn.
Very reluctantly I faxed back the form they sent accepting offer, Also popping the original copy in the post, as feared they would say they would need this, so to my surprise a couple of days later, recieved a cheque in post for full amount:T . Now judging by date of cheque looks like they acted upon my fax, even though I was told they would not act upon this, so Best advise I can give you, Is to try sending polite letter first accepting offer conditionally, (payment by cheque only) if they decline this sign it anyway and see what happens. Really dont think there is anyother way round it hun,
Best of luck anyway
