    Hiya,

Just joined and saying hi to everybody.

I sent my first letter off to Nat West and received my statements back within 2weeks and with no letter or anything.

Any added up all my charges and came up to £4800

So I took off £800 for Advantage Gold fees and replied back saying can I have MY £4000 back please and this letter was signed for on the 21st of March.

I phoned them up on the 29th March and to ask how my claim was going. The chap on the end of the phone told me that a confirmation letter would be sent to me within the next 2-3 days, just to confirm that they have received the letter, which I know they have because he had just told me so. He then said in another 3-4 weeks they would send me a letter with an offer.

I didn’t saying anything and thought that it was best to leave it till the 14 days had passed before I call them again.

So I sort of know where I am with the claim but need a holding hand over the next stage.

When we say reply within 14 days, is this 14 working days? or 14 days.

If its 14 days then im going to phone them tomorrow and see if they have come up with an offer (which I doubt).

If I call tomorrow should I tell them that if I don’t receive an offer in the next 24 hours then ill file a claim in court and would this then push them into getting an offer in the post?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Big

Personally, I'd stick to the timescale set out (see Martin's article here ). I've not bothered phoning them as I've read a lot of posts where they say 'the offer's in the post' or similar on the phone, and then nothing materialises. Yes, they're busy, but often they're using stalling tactics to drag out the process.
They've got 14 working days to respond to your letter asking them to refund your fees, and then it's time to send the next letter threatening court action.
Natwest received my letter today in which I've threatened court action if they don't reply. If I hear nothing, or they write and say 'no', then I'll commence MCOL on day 15.
That's just my opinion though - others might handle it a bit differently.

we sent a letter 14th march asking for £3700 inc interest, asked for reply in 14 days, not heard anything back so tomorrow a letter is being posted telling them we are taking them to court, my partner was forced into a loan because of the charges, would we have cause to do something about this if they ever do pay us back?

    cheers

Welcome aboard!! You'll get lots of help and advice here on pursuing the bank to get your money back. I've just sent the letter threatening court action, as Natwest didn't respond to my request for a refund of charges. Ask any questions - someone will come along and give you help!

    Hi All,

Just though I'd join the fun here :T :rotfl: :T

Thought I'd follow all of your shining examples and start reclaiming all my charges. Sent an E-mail to customer services and in 3 days was contacted by a customer services manager saying my request for last three years banks statements was being dealt with and would be sent out in the post.

So far so good  :j
  • Hi, After just receiving a £152 Charge from natwest yesterday, i thought it was time to sort this out and go through my accounts, Looking back through my statements i found that over just 2 years (sadly haven't kept any from further back) they've charged me £333 in unlawful charges.
So i've just filled out the template letter, but i'm wondering who exactly do i send the letter to? Is it my branch or is it somewhere else?
Where has everyone else been sending their letters to?

Thank you in advance, and i look forward to keeping you upto date with whats happening with natwest.

I've banked with Natwest for 10 years, 3 of those as a single mum and boy have I paid for it. I keep my statements so I went through them all today and added up the charges and interest. Nearly fell off my chair as I realized they were equivalent to two months salary. So I found sense, read the site and the forum and wrote the letter. It's now sitting here with a schedule of charges and interest ready to go in the post tomorrow - recorded delivery. This is my first stage of getting to grips with my money and the chat forum has been really helpful as it is giving me the courage to go for it. So what if going overdrawn is my fault they have never helped me with these unfair charges and in fact offer to lend me money that i would not be able to pay back. Fingers crossed.

I agree - I only wish I'd heard about this sooner - I got in a lot of debt in 97-2001 and like they do Natwest "helpfully" offered me a loan to repay my overdraft even though I didn't have a job at the time!
Its taken me until now (with a little help) to have almost paid it all off now but i just can't imagine what all my charges would have been for that period!

Another question I wanted to ask - Any MoneyClaimOnliners making any progress? I've not read much from anyone at the same stage as me for a long time. If anyone remembers Ken W's posts, I think i started my claim 2 weeks after him and I'm still here! I've been waiting since 27th February for a hearing date (I started this whole thing in November). I got sent an offer but without interest and long after the court process was started. I feel a bit forgotton!

nat west recieved my claim on 12/03/07 and replied on 16/03/07 saying we need 21 days to investigate

i waited 14 days (27/03/07) and sent 2nd letter giving seven days or i go to court
7 days up today and recieved no reply so i rang today and was told oft has allowed banks 8 weeks to settle claim

do i wait for a response from 2nd letter before i use mcol or just proceed with court action now

I got my bank statements on Saturday and spent the weekend checking and double checking them.

It totals £788 over the past 4 years that i've had the account.

I've asked for the interest too.

Can't wait to get my reply

    Wish me luck.
