Hello, I'm organising a claim for a friend (who is with NatWest), i've gone through his statements, and there are lots of charges, but they don't say what the charges are for, and as such, I'm not entirely sure which I can claim.

For example I have spotted the following types of charges:

    UNPAID ITEM(S)
    REFERRAL CHARGE
    CARD MISUSE

But the vast majority just have the date and then the account number with no further information.

Can all of these be claimed? I'm not sure which are 'penalty charges' and which are just normal account charges

    Thanks

Hi - this is what can/can't be claimed:-

    CAN BE CLAIMED

    Account misuse fee
    Cheque return fee
    Card misuse fee
    Unarranged borrowing fee
    Unauthorised overdraft fee
    Unpaid DD fee
    Unpaid cheque fee
    Unpaid standing order fee
Late payment fee (credit cards, store cards, catalogues etc)
    Exceeding Authorised Overdraft Limit
    Exceeding Unauthorised Overdraft Limit
    Direct Debit/Standing Order/Cheque returned fee
    Irregular fee
    Paid refferal fee
Total charges (HSBC personal accounts only, not business accounts)

    CANNOT BE CLAIMED

    Cash Machine Withdrawl Fees
    Account Service Charges
    Service Fee / Annual Fee
Charges related to foreign currency transactions and conversions.
Monthly account fees on certain type of accounts.
    Normal overdraft interest charges

There is an issue regarding whether we have been charged for Advantage when we never really had that type of account. So some of earlier charges have been made for this which I did not include in my original claim......

Hi - I discovered Nastywest had upgraded my account to Advantage Gold without my permission, costing me £12 a month. If you watched 'Whistleblowers' last week, you'd have seen that this sort of thing happened to Barclays customers. I got on to them and demanded they refund my charges - which they did, pronto. I've a complaint going through the channels at the moment about it. PM me if you want more details.
If your account was upgraded and you never agreed to it, I'd ring up the Care Team (what an ironic choice of name :D ) and get those charges refunded immediately, separately from your charges claim.

Hmmmm...I have a regular charge of £28 at the end on each month on my statements (this is where I think I have made a mistake as I included these on my list & sent it to my bank), I'm wondering if it's advantage gold charges, even though I haven't got an advantage gold account

it says: charges 30NOV A/C ******** £28.00 so on & so on going back every month but with different dates (e.g. the one previous to this is 29OCT A/C ********).

Just thought I'd let you know that they charged me £35.00 for going over my overdraft by 9 pence!!!! They didn't even honour the 9 pence, they bounced the payment!

Does sound like those could be account charges - maybe for something you never agreed to, like me! I'd def. check that out with them !!

This fee is not for Advantage Gold, it is the fee for an unauthourised overdraft / borrowing, which you should claim with your other charges.

If you had an Advantage Gold Account a) it would say so on your statement and b) the fee you describe would be £40, i.e. £12 for AdGold (at current rate) and £28 for unauth O/D.

    Hope this helps.

Sounds like you are as relieved as I am Pam :j (although thinking about it, I may have to go back & check the charges from when I actually DID have the AG Account, too tired to do it tonight). Have you sent your 2nd letter off yet? or were you doing that on Monday?

Was going to send it Monday but couldn't wait... sent it yesterday - thought it might make a nice start to their Monday morning :D:D
Wonder when or if we'll hear anything? I don't fancy having to go through the MCOL thing (I'm lazy) but then again, it's all set out for us, so we can talk each other through it!

I know what you mean, it's a daunting thought this MCOL thing, I'd rather avoid it if I can due to funds (or the lack of them) at the moment, I've got a lot to pay out, but if it means having to struggle like I have in the past then so be it, hopefully it'll work out in the end.

I've got a funny feeling we are both going to post "seen the signature online at Royal Mail" tomorrow :j hehehe
