  • Hi there,

I received my pile of bank statements on Thursday, which was sooner than expected. Ive been reading through your discussion threads and didnt realise how stubborn Natwest could be. The cretins.

I'm going to send out my 14day letter with the list of charges (£1,220.00) tomorrow, and in the meantime I am going to swith my direct debits over to my other current account which I have with Abbey (just in case they do the nasty on me)

I have a student overdraft with Natwest (£900) do you think I should go straight to the point and offer to settle by clearing my overdraft? Or am I doing too much too soon???

Just to let you know I plucked the courage up to phone natwest to see if they had received my letter claiming bank charges, even though they still have 7 days left to reply. I was so nervous on the phone, expecting a snotty advisor on the other end, but much to my amazement the woman was lovely and apologised for any delay as I haven't had a reply....but thats because they haven't had my letter as yet. She told me not to worry and to ring back again before the end of the week (which is my deadline) to see where they are up to. She was unbelievably nice & I came off the phone quite happy but I'm still going to stick to my timescale!

Just incase anyone is interested, the number I rang was 0845 303456 (I was told by the lady on the phone that it's the number dealing with reclaiming charges), hope this helps someone who want to chase things up.

are people still getting ther charges bac from natwest? i have just asked for my statements but feel that i have left it to late to get my charges back
  • Hi,

I have an account with Natwest that i recently went overdrawn and had to pay out charges. I went in to the bank and these charges went back from jan this year where i was overdrawn by £1.62 and they charged my £28.00 which came out straight away then at the end of the month they charged my again another £35.00 for the unauthorised overdraft. What i cheek!!

i went into the bank explained all this and the casheer filled out a report on my account and told me that she fully understood where i was coming from and made some notes. After she gave me a lecture no doubt on how to manage my finances and not to be going overdrawn in the first place. If she is allowed to say that.

Any way, she rang me the next few days to say that she had arranged for the charges to be refunded. So job well done. However i have in the meantime wrote my letter to the bank filling for all default bank charges from the last 3 years i have been with them. So fingers crossed they will be so easy for them to cough up MY money.

It's getting close to the 14 day deadline since writing to Natwest to reclaim my bank charges. Is there any advantage to phoning up to see if this request is being dealt with, or should I just wait until the 14 days is up and then send the next letter threatening court action? I know the letter was received as I sent it recorded delivery, and its shown up as being signed for on the 'track and trace' on Royal Mail.

    thanks
    Pam

Hi Pam, I rang to get an update after I heard someone on this site rang & was told they had an offer in the post (before her 14 day deadline) but when I rang about my case they said they hadn't received anything, I hand delivered mine to my branch. My 14 day deadline is on Friday so I'm giving them another call on Thursday but I'm still going to stick to my timescale & proceed with the 2nd letter if I have no joy.

    Good luck with your claim.

    Hi,

Natwest have agreed to settle, but they have conditions.

    Which are:
"Any charges that properly accrue in the future will be applied to your bank account in line with their published tariff and in accordance with your agreement with the bank. Should you be unwilling to accept these charges, then we may consider if we are prepared to continue to provide you with your exising banking facilities. Instead we may offer you a simple account that does not offer borrowing facilities or other services that can result in charges."

I am not planning on going overdrawn again but it may happen. Can I still claim any charges made in the future.

    Regards Stax

I would really appreciate some advice please.

I received my statements off Natwest in good time, totalled up charges which came to £520.

I sent the letter off requesting charges back plus interest of £96. I sent this letter to my local branch via recorded delivery on 27-02-07.
This was signed for on 28-02-07.

Last week, 23-3-07 I phoned NatWest customer services to see what was happening and they said I should receive a letter by the end of this month.
Should I just send the next letter threatening court action? If I send this letter, do I have to put a copy of all charges I am claiming in with it bearing in mind I have already sent them once?

    Any help really appreciated

    Thanks
