Well, I finally prised the last of the statements out of Natwest, so HOORAY, I can start my claim with them. Its taken a while and a few phone calls to get the statements out of them!
    Wish me luck!

  • Hi
Can anyone please give me advice? I have a closed Nat West account which has an overdraft balance of approx. £6.5k all of which is their charges, fees and interest on those penalty charges. I made an agreement last summer to pay £80 per month to pay it off but as they charge me about that in interest each month I will never pay it off. I wrote asking for just over £7.5k back (but forgot to add on another £1k they have charged me since last summer). I am concerned as obviously the amount means it won't be a small claims and I don't know how to proceed if they refuse to pay up (which I am sure they will). I don't want to make the claim under the £5k as this means I will still have a large overdraft to pay off.
    Any ideas?

Can anyone help with the above please, I can't see a reply....

Update - only received letter from Borehamwood saying they were looking into it but with no date by which time they would respond. The 14 days were up last Monday so yesterday I sent them a Letter Before Action but included a revised list of charges. It amounted to over £7.5k WITHOUT any interest (WITH interest would be almost £9k!!!.) Can I claim for this via MCOL and which court will it be held in. Do I need to get legal advice due to the amount being over £5k? Please help.

Sounds like stalling tactics to me, and very frustrating for you. I'd be tempted to send them another acceptance letter by recorded delivery and make the point that you have already written to accept (quoting the date it was given in to the bank), and that your husband was told your original letter had been received (quoting the name of the Adviser he spoke to, if possible, date and time)
I'm having a run in with Natwest over them upgrading my account to Advantage Gold without my permission (which would have incurred £12 monthly charges) I've been on to the Customer Care team 3 times already, and made a note of the date, time, and the names of the Advisers I spoke to.
I quoted chapter and verse when I took my complaint to the next level in the complaints procedure, and feel it helps our cases to be able to substantiate all our dealings with the bank.
Good luck, hope you get it sorted out soon,

    Pam

I sent my letter back on 28th Feb accepting their offer as a partial....called again Thursday just gone to find out what was happening..I was told that there is a 10-14 working days wait to have your money paid in. I have signed the acceptance letter and sent an additional letter stating that I am owed more than this and expect it to follow...

I hope they still pay me the offer amount in the meantime...got bills to pay!!

Are there any students with any experience of claiming back money off Natwest? I have a student account with them which is currently around £1200 OD and even though it's only a small amount I'm thinking of trying to claim back £57 of charges from them. The thing is I can't afford to have my account with them closed and I'm also not in a position to open a parachute account because I'm only allowed one student account (it'd be easy to get around this I know but I'm not prepared to risk getting caught because I work for one of Natwest's rivals and so it might not be good for my career prospects).

    Any advice?

I am trying to help my son reclaim bank charges from NatWest.
Over the last three years my son has had to pay unauthorised overdraft charges every month of £28. This has often been charged even when it has been the previous months charge that has made the account exceed the agreed limit. He only works part-time and is low payed so he is having great problems trying to keep the account in credit each month so the charges don't apply.
Is it advisable to try to claim back these charges (about £900) when they are still applying them each month, or is he best advised to get the account in order first?
Do NatWest close customers accounts that make claims for repayment?
Any advice about NatWest policy on this issue and what would be the best way to proceed greatly appricted.

Hi, I have just today received a Full settlement from Nat West of all my charges plus interest. I have gone as far as court proceedings and they put in a defence, but two weeks after receiving court date ( today) their solicitors sent a Cheque for the full amount claimed. In answer to your question "do Nat West close accounts " the answer is no. But in the letter I received they do state that in the future further charges will still be applied to my account where necessary, in so many words they say that if I object to this again then they will consider changing my account to a different type with no borrowing facilities etc. ( in other words just a plain cashcard account), but still haven't threatened to close the account completely. I hope this helps you, and if I can help further in any way please don't hesitate to ask, I will be only too pleased to help. I suggest you go for it for your Son, you will get them back in the end, and Good Luck. Janie A
