I claimed £152 back from Natwest on 7th January but only had a standard photocopied reply in response. I then instigated proceedings using the online Money Claim site on 1st March, and today have received an offer from Natwest for the full £152 which obviously I'm happy with. However, I have now paid out £30 for the court action, have I lost this if I accept their offer? Can the court refund the £30 or is it too late? If I proceed with the court action, will they rule in Natwest's favour given that they've offered the full £152?
If my claim was for £1000's I don't think I'd mind losing out on £30 too much, but given that's 1/5th of the amount I'm reluctant to accept it's just lost.
Any advice greatly appreciated.Quidco savings: £499.49 tracked, £494.35 paid.0 -
Claimed against Natwest for £500 through the normal route of sending off letter to Head Office. The 14 day expiry date set to start court procedure came along but I had to wait till the end of month payday to start this.
Anyway, day before I was to start the court claim I got letter offering me the full amount! Get in! No legal action started. Maybe because it was for a relatively small amount.
Told few people at work about it and of course had the high horse, I manage my bank accounts flawlessly reply of "well its people like you claiming that are driving interest rates up and banks introducing yearly bank costs for customers?!"
Anyone else had this?! If so, some ready made replies would be nice! Not to quick with the comebacks this tired Monday morning!

I tell you what.......Natwest just never cease to amaze me !!!
Phoned them last week to remind them that the 40 days is nearly up to return my statements. The chap on the phone was very apologetic , we're inundated with requests for this blah blah. Anyway , promised to get statements out to me asap (still waiting ) , and said we wont charge you for statements for your inconvenience blah blah.
Bear in mind I had sent a cheque with request letter from my new citi account (couldnt resisit lol).
I check natwest acct this morning.......they have charged my account with £5 for historic statement request.....SENDING ME OVERDRAWN!!! And i had sent a citi cheque!!
Honestly , dont whether i'm fuming at their arrogance and ineptitude , or should be pmsl cos i'm getting away from their arrogance and ineptitude!!

Oh I really feel for you !! They are driving me nuts as well - they've sent 4yrs statements, but still haven't sent me the other 2yrs despite repeated phone calls - the 40 days is still a way off, but as I see it, if they can send 4years within a week, why's it taking so long to send the other 2.
Good luck with them - and don't forget to charge them that £5 if it sent you over an agreed overdraft limit.

Oh I've had that as well - one high and mighty 'friend' said 'well, of course, I never go overdrawn, and get interest on what I've got in the bank' I pointed out that I accept a small charge for having been 'naughty' but violently object to being ripped off to the tune of £30 for something that should have cost me £2.50.
My late mother had a lovely saying 'well, there have to be people like me to make people like you shine' which she delivered in a very caustic tone!
alll the best,

Thanks Pam , the 40 days is up this friday , and i havent heard a peep from them! Cant wait to see how much they've been ripping me off for , and yes , this charge will be going on aswell! Just so annoyed that i sent them a cheque , which they seem to have ignored!!

Hi Guys,
I've two accounts with Natwest. Both have incurred excessive charges which total £168 in the last 3 months alone!
My problem and question is....I've a loan with Natwest - are they within their rights to demand the money back? I've never defaulted on this loan.
I have a spare account with Abbey that I can use should they close my current account but would be unable to repay the loan in full should they demand....
Any advice?
Thanks

That's my big worry as well, although I think I read somewhere that its a separate agreement, so they shouldn't do that, and that its unfair of them to penalise us in this way for having exercised our right to claim back unfair bank charges.
Will be interested to read any replies to your post,

To be honest, I'm starting to wonder whether they just charge you to see if they can get away with it.
Both accounts incurred a £28 charge this month yet both accounts haven't gone over my overdraft limit in ages (in fact one account is dormant at 0.00 with an o/d facility of £100 so shouldn't incur charges ANYWAY!!
Hopefully someone with a similar situation will report their findings re the loan.0 -
Hi,
I need some advice. I gave Natwest the 14 days days to give me back my bank charges, they kindly sent me another copy of my statements, annoyingly I got these ones for free and I paid £10 for the first lot. The first 2 letters went to my branch, should I send the LBA to my branch or should I send to the head office. If I send to the head office what is the address and who should I make for the attention of.
Also on the template letter for the LBA there is a section for the County Court, I live in Blackburn and my bank is in Bolton which court do I put down.
Regards Stax0
