    Hi Pam,

Go for it......but I must top your charges, in December 2006 we were charged 500 pounds in charges alone!!

DD kept being recalled and they just kept charging!!

Apparentlt got an offer letter in post that should be with my by end of week. hope its the full amount plus the interest or it being declined!

    Greggie.

Hope it's the full amount - fingers crossed !!
To add insult to injury, Natwest upgraded my account from basic to Advantage Gold without my permission !! I have rung up and written to complain - why I should pay those graspers £12 a month for something I never asked for. I've written again to say that unless they sort this out PDQ I shall take my complaint to the Ombudsman for tampering with my account without my permission. I'm fuming.

Also, I got 4yrs back statements today - the other 2yrs are hopefully on their way. So far, they owe me almost £800 (that's without interest), and I'd guess the final figure will be around £1500. Am I right in thinking I can claim what are itemised as 'referral fees' back? Had a few of those.

    thanks

  • I used to bank with Natwest their charges are currently £38 a time so far on one of my accounts Iam £134 overdrawn due solely to bank charges my other account in some £465 overdrawn due to bank charges I have already written to them requesting my charges be removed in line with the office of fair trading to date they have refused stating that their charges are transparent and reasonable I have advised them that the next step is court action. they have now as a response closed both of my accounts including an account in my wifes name that was in credit. They have advised me that they will be taking me to court as I have failed to bring my accounts back in order (this should save me about £120 in fees to register my claim against Natwest) I have responded to their letter by telling them to take me and I will show up with a rep from the financial ombudsman and when I explain to the court that I am only overdrawn due to what the office of fair trading refer to as excessive bank charges it will be interesting to see the courts response cant wait!!!! Ill keep you informed as to how it goes fingers crossed.
  • I received nearly six years statements on Saturday, but there was 10 months missing off the first half of 2001, I've phoned today and requested the rest, the very nice girl on the phone said she's ordered them but they'll take another 7-10 days. In view of the email this morning from martin telling people to crack on with their claims before April I'm tempted to forget about the missing 10 months and just claim the £1100. that i have statements for. At at guess the account wasn't too bad that year so might not have been charged much anyway.

Any ideas anyone, I really don't want to send the letter off and then get the statements the next day! Grrrrrrrrr:mad:

Are you following the advised procedure recommended here? See the "Reclaiming your bank charges" thread, using the suggested letters? Also, I don't think they are allowed to close your accounts without giving you 30 days notice.

Tricky one to decide! I don't think there'll be an immediate stop (or any stop, for that matter) on us reclaiming charges. Me? I'm out to get every single penny they owe me. I'm waiting for 2yrs statements (had the other 4) cuz i know they were bad years. I'm owed almost £1000 for those 4 years (thought it was £800 initially, but I went through them again and found some I'd missed). Am going to wait til those statements arrive and claim the lot.
I've also uncovered a few other things on my statement - errors by the motor insurance co. taking out the monthly premium twice in one month for example. Just goes to show we should pay close attention to things - wish I'd done that years ago.

    good luck,
    Pam

Yes you can, these are where they have had to refer the DD/SO back.

Oh thank you! That's a bit more (actually quite a lot more) for the piggy bank. Having re-checked the 4 yrs statements, I found a few charges I'd missed, added on the referral fees, and so now it's topped £1000. Just hope the missing 2 yrs statements arrive soon - I know they were rough years back in 2001 and 2002 and my guesstimate is a claim of around £1500 plus interest. And suprise, suprise, I'm £1500 overdrawn. I still can't believe that I can really claim this back, and stand a very good chance of getting it. Just hope the law doesn't change in the next few weeks, or that I lose my nerve - it just seems too good to be true, and would be an absolute godsend to me if I win it back.

I'm looking at it in terms of them paying off my overdraft they landed me with :rotfl:

Hi, I am with Natwest also and find their charges so annoying, it is usually the charge that takes me overdrawn, when this happens I go in and see them as soon as a I can and speak with someone, they can see my account is usually in good standing until their charges go off the account, at which point they usually say "well we can see your usually within your limit so we'll take them off for you". I am now having problems with my Natwest credit card where for the past 3 months their charges have taken me over my limit, just called them to ask for them to be removed and the person said "well if your overdrawn at the beginning of the month then that's why your getting charged" when I said it's the charges that are taking me overdrawn they said "well if the charge takes you overdrawn then it's because you haven't got enough credit paid" yet the first month I went over it was by about £2 or £3 (didn't know because payments are slow at showing up) and the following month I got a charge I didn't even know I was getting and was this charge that started this 3 months of charges by taking over by about £10.

Since i'm not too well at the moment and can't stay on the phone all day trying to get it sorted i'll write them a letter and then try and phone again later to see what I can get sorted, thing is the credit helps me (i'm on benefits) because I means that I can keep most of my money in the bank and pay off £20 a fortnight which I use if and when I need it, I make sure I am in credit when I use it, then their interest goes off and akes me over my limit or £12 charges.

Anyway from an irate but poorly customer of Natwest CC (been with Natwest for years) I just wanted to say that I know how your son feels, most of my charges on my bank account I have got back but I am going to request my statements for the past 6 years cos i'm sure theres 1 or 2 i might have missed at some point.

I am trying to help my son reclaim bank charges from NatWest.
Over the last three years my son has had to pay unauthorised overdraft charges every month of £28. This has often been charged even when it has been the previous months charge that has made the account exceed the agreed limit. He only works part-time and is low payed so he is having great problems trying to keep the account in credit each month so the charges don't apply.
Is it advisable to try to claim back these charges (about £900) when they are still applying them each month, or is he best advised to get the account in order first?
Do NatWest close customers accounts that make claims for repayment?
Any advice about NatWest policy on this issue and what would be the best way to proceed greatly appricted.

Hiya can anyone help me please ? we sent our first letter to claim our charges back from natwest on the 6 feb and last week we had a phone call saying there was an offer in the post (still not got it) , and found out that the offer is for the amount we claimed for . But i havent received the letter yet and found out today that the bank have charged us interest on our overdrawn account again today , surely if they had sent me the letter when they said they had they would not have charged us the interest again because if the money was in our bank before today we would be in credit quite a bit of money . Is there anything i can do about this as i feel they are stealing from us again .

    Thanks
