Thanks Lorraine
I've followed the sample letters on here from Martin and have just put them in the envelope to post. Just wasn't sure being a closed acc,
Do you know what happens if I still owe them money from an overdraft???
Many thanks...0 -
LizD wrote:I sent the initial letter to Natwest back in the summer and got the standard 'bog-off' letter back. I didn't bother taking it further at the time. I'm wondering if it's worth trying again, but whether to start from the beginning again? FYI my charges come to about £250 and I'm overdrawn with this account. I'm not in a postion to attend court if it goes that far. I also have poor credit, so getting another account could be tricky.
Read the basic account thread, Citibank is good, they apparently give out currents to anybody regardless of history or thereabouts. Absolutely go back in and get what's yours. Follow martin's step by step guide. If it is Natwest, I can't guaranteee a stress free process, but as many of the people on this site will agree, you will get your money back.

Kill_Natwest wrote:Hi, i'm 16 and have had an account with Natwest and have had previous charges of £38 each - just for going a tiny bit overdrawn sometimes like £1 - £8, which I payed. My friend told me I could claim them back, I didn't bother following it up but then saw on the TV some women saying she's successfully claimed back grands.
I have only had about ..two maybe three charges so maybe £74 + which I know isn't alot compared to like what other people claim but I still don't like the fact the banks can get away with it so I want to follow it up and get it back.
So far all I have done is ring them, I rang them straight after seeing the thing on TV and eventually (after about 20minutes) got through to some arrogant women, I was immediately quite brutal in my defence and stated I would like all previous charges back immediately lol, the women seemed quite defensive and said I would need to make some sort of enquiry or something and they would need to investigate why the charges were unfair.
I told her the unfair nature of the charges were the amount itself and that £38 a time is criminal, she got all stumbled in her arrogant self and suddenly seemed less inclined for debate and spouted on about some letter she would send.
Anyway I got some letter about 5 days later and some leaflet to do with the ''Financial Ombudsman Service" I think they're just trying to delay and make me clustered up so I dont bother to procceed realistically with my claim.
I downloaded some template letter the ''14 day'' letter but my printer is broke so I cant print it, is hand written ok?
Could someone help me and advise me on how to go about this small claim please? thanks.Too many children, too little time!!!0 -
kduques wrote:Hi guys,
Recently I went down the path of taking my bank to the small claims court.. I didn't hear anything until today, and was looking forward to their 14 days being up as of this Sunday. Unfortunately they have acknowledged the claim, and have declaired that they will defend all of my claim. Is this standard practice? I felt sick. It's gone on for too long, and if in the end they are either going to pay up, or make a partial offer, then why won't they just be a good bank and give me back my freakin money.
Also, if they do submit their defence before the further 14 days are up, where does that leave me?

Please don't give up, this is exactly what they are trying to make you do. Stick to your guns and get advice from the forums here.

Hi all-
I'm sorry if this has been raised before- I guess it has, but I've searched as much as tired eyes will allow tonight.....
I have 2 Natwest accounts at different branches. Both are current accounts, one in Southampton and one in Bristol. I want to try and claim fees back from both accounts (approx £700 and £500 respectively, including interest).
I have 6 years worth of statements, so can skip straight to sending the letter to the bank. I think this is supposed to go to the branch, right? Does this mean it's better to split the claim and send one claim to each branch (doubling the risk of courts etc), or would the claim work just as well doing both together and sending to the head office address?
Hope someone has some ideas on this..... thanks!0 -

Have you defaulted on this overdraft? If so, there will be a default notice on your account. In which case use the standard letter from the CAG website as this also includes for default removal.:rotfl:"Penny Pinching Winch"

Ok, send two letters, one for each account (all accounts are treated separately, not least because Natwest amongst others declares that it treats each complaint on a case by case basis.) to the following address.
Customer Relations
Natwest Bank
Ground Floor
National Westminster House
225 Shenley Road
Borehamwood
Herts, WD6 1TE
With regards to the branch, do not involve them at all. They will only ultimately send to customer services / lending centre, who will send to the above address.
If you want to phone Natwest ask for the department who is dealing with reclaimed charges (they are well aware what you mean) and only speak to them.
Hope that helps and cuts down on the time you have to spend messing around with slippery old National Westminster Bank.

You can combine them together. Also send to your branches, Borehamwood address and Bishopsgate address. Thats what i did with my three accounts and have had success with them receiving them. Dont forget to send RD:rotfl:"Penny Pinching Winch"

Johncollin78, in my case Natwest treated my claim as one and i had included two accounts. So you can just send one letter with both account numbers and two breakdowns of each account. My court claim is joint as well. I have never had a response from Natwest to indicate differently.:rotfl:

That's interesting. They advised me to treat my business and current separately. The cheeky thing they also did was to offer me the amount charged illegally on my business account as settlement for my current i.e. £70 for £600 hoping I would confuse the two and sign the acceptance form sent to me with the current account number hidden in a load of text right at the back of the offer. Obviously if I had done that I would be legally bound not to chase the rest of the offer. I wonder if they have done anything else like this to anyone. I wouldn't be surprised. Their behaviour throughout the life of my account has been diplorable and wilfully obstructive. When I was broke a few years back I pleaded with them to stop hitting me with charges and extend my overdraft so I could make inroads to clearing. Of , course this was refused on at least five occasions as I was making them money in charges. They also refused to get rid of my overdaft when I processed a large amount through the account (not by my choice believe me.) and then harrased with phonecalls telling me what I could do with my money. It was transferred at daily limits as soon as it cleared to another bank. Their behavior in my reclaiming has been nothing short of dispicable. Misdirection, lies about receiving mail, sending me to wrong departments, cutting me off the phone (even after I had told them I was just cut off), illogical hold times, complete and total ignorance of my claim and standard letters that didn't even quote my account number. I am so glad this consumer revolution is happening right now and people are taking action. The best thing is it will give many people their first taste of taking large corporations to court and seeing they can win. I am glad so many people are seeing they no longer need to feel impotent against these devilish and reckless practices. If a customer feels very aggreived it is usually because they have been mistreated and I just hope that this consumer revoltion takes foothold over here. I am trying in my own small way to reclaim from Bank of America (see the reclaim in the USA? thread) and it makes me so happy especially this week to see this issue being raised to the natioanl consciousness.
Bravo MSE and good luck to all reclaimers, especially those claiming form Natwest!Reclaiming Bank Charges in the UK
