I've been with HSBC for over 19 years (since the Midland school kits days).
I have:
Overdraft: £2,000 (usually go up to this each month)
Credit card: £4,200
Loan: £5,500
Do I need to be in a better position before claiming? I must admit, that I reckon they have charged me at least £25 for most months I have been with them.
I've read all the information about this, but still aren't sure whether it's wise to wait until I have at least cleared my OD.

Martin's written about this with the main Bank Charges article on the main site, have you looked at it? I would post the link, but i don't have a clue how! Sorry'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars' - Oscar Wilde0

Hi All,
Thanks to all the advise in this thread. I too am currently sorting the first letter for my HSBC personal account(Cheers for all the info). On a side note, I also have a small business account with them. Can one claim back charges from this account as well?
I have had a search on the web for resources on this, without much joy.
Can anyone advise?

YES YES YES!!! Money finally got given back by HSBC. To apologise for being annoying and making me ill with worry for the last week, they have refunded the interest I asked for, too. It's amazing what threatening them with lawyers and bailiffs can achieve...With all of my dietary restrictions, I'm left with lipstick and water0

bladerunner845 wrote:Hi, I dont think i made much sense so i'll try explaining a bit better. I followed the procedure up to the point where i hadn't recieved an offer within the designated time scale so i started court proceedings. I have 9 days till i can request judgement by default but thismorning i got a letter from DG solicitors asking for a complete breakdown including interst. I sent this (the breakdown)to the bank along with my original claim so that they knew if the didnt settle i would charge interest. So should i hold out sending it to the solicitors so that i can hopefully claim judgement by default or should i send it of ASAP in the hope that i get an offer? Any thoughts would help put my mind at ease. Thanks
Please, anyone? Really would like some advice.

Your loan and credit cards should be different agreements from your current account. As regards your overdraft if you are successful with your reclaim this will help reduce your overdraft so its certainly worth starting a claim.0 -
bladerunner845 wrote:Hi, I have recieved this letter also. The difference is that i have instigated court action. Should i just hold out replying as it is only 9 days till there 28 days for a defence is up or should i reply with the sheet they already got from me as soon as poss in the hope of a full offer?
Sorry I missed this one, send them off the list.0 -
I started this reclaiming bank charges process with great gusto last year. It took Natwest 4 1/2 weeks to send me my statements. I waited the month after sending in my letter asking for the statements as I thought I had to give them a month (I'd advise you do all bu recorded delivery and follow all up by phone)! I then called and they said the letter must be lost in the system but lovely lady organised them for me and I got them the 2 days later, so it's obviously not that difficult for them
Lovely 'customer care' folk at Natwest right up to the point that you look serious. Then they get patronising and very unhelpful.
Anyway, I rather lost the impetus, I got a bit scared truth be told, on the whole thing but am now at the court filing stage and now that I found this site I've been reading like a demented one in the last few weeks and will put aside the worries and intimidation I felt about the court process and will file today!
Thanks for the confidenceClaire
PS - Advantage Gold customers who are struggling  I'd say cancel that 'service' it costs a fortunum and is not reclaimable.£3k back from Natwest:beer:, approx 29% saved on major debts due to Martin's tarting advice and LOTS more (inc weight loss too! ... Hello.
I filed a a claim with the small claims court last week against HSBC, and they have filed an Acknowledgement of Service and now have 28 days to respond. What does this mean?
I'm getting a little nervous and my husband is not helping by keeping on telling me that it will go to court, we'll end up owing thousands in legal fees and everyone at my company will find out and it will be a mess.
Can someone please help and perhaps provide some reassurance?
Also, in the claim amount I included the 8% compound interest - this is right isn't it?
Thanks in advance...Lightbulb moment - October 2005
Debt at highest - £97,000
Debt now (15/06/07) - £83,908.47 (still  but every little helps!)
Debtfree Date - 2015 (but working on it)!
2007 Comp Challenge - £360/£0 (I have no luck with winning!)0
