I posted the Data Protection Act 1998 Subject Access Request letter to the HSBC Bradford on 17th October via Recorded Delivery. I have checked on the Royal Mail website and have seen that this was received by signature on
    19th October - now 42 days ago.

I have received nothing from my request - no acknowledgement, no statements. What should I do next?

    From Martin's article...

The bank only has a maximum 40 days to respond. If you don’t get a reply, follow up with a phone call and then report it to the Information Commissioner for a breach.

I've finally managed to register here (it's only taken 3 days)! The site is fantastic by the way, I feel so encouraged by all of your experiences.
I wondered if anyone would be able to give me some advice. Basically, I managed to download all of my last 6 years statements from my internet banking (HSBC). I trawled through them all and discovered they have charged me nearly £3500 over that time! I highlighted all of the charges and sent off the statements with only the charges shown on them to HSBC. What I'm worried about, is that most people seem to have put all this info on a spreadsheet and I haven't! Will this affect my claim at all as the statements clearly stated the charges and what they are for.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Hiya Lisa  and firstly welcome to MSE. I printed off all my statements 4 years worth from HSBC then I also highlighted the charges and then input them into Martin's calculator.

See this link: it is on there http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1141050760,24632,#interest

I then printed the calculations out, used the shell letter asking for a total of £404 including the interest and sent it off recorded delivery ensuring I had kept a copy for my information. That was 2 days ago and I'm just waiting for the response.

Good luck with yours as long as the information that you sent them is clear and understandable it should be OK

Hi, it's me again! I didn't ask for interest on my claim (not too bothered about that at the mo). Do I still need to do a spreadsheet? Will it mean that they'll send back the statements I sent them? Just don't want to give them an excuse to delay! Sorry for all these questions.

Before you sent the statements off to the bank, did you make a list of every charge? This would need the date, type of charge, and the amount of each charge. You'll need a copy of this yourself to do the spreadsheet, and for the later stages if you have to issue a court claim.

Cheers Rex-Mundi. I sent off the appropriate statement pages with the charges on and highlighted them. I think it was quite clear on the statements exactly what they're for. I did keep copies of them so do you think it will be ok to breakdown the charges and put them on a spreadsheet now and hold onto them until a court date (if that happens at all). Or do I need to send that to the bank now? Thanks for all your advice. Lisa

As long as you've kept a record of all the dates/charge/amount. You can do your spreadsheet when you need it.

Thanks very much Rex-Mundi. I think what confused me was the fact that the bank already have all this info, why shoud we have to go to the trouble of putting it on a spreadsheet?! As long as they have a figure to go on, it's all delay tactics I think.
I've also sent off my sister's and OH charges statements. The 3 of ours combined is over £8,000! That is under 6 years in their cases aswell.
Manythanks again, I'll get the spreadsheets done asap just in case.
