  • i successfully got HSBC to refund all my bank charges over the last 6 years (£1,270 in total) but have discovered that since my initial claim, another £350of charges have been applied to my account. perhaps unwisely, i signed a letter effectively saying i wouldn't make any future claims. but i'm now questioning the legality of this letter, bearing in mind the charges that they've levied on my account are themselves illegal anyway. do you think i should press ahead with another claim to obtain the £350?

Shouldn't your son be doing that. After all, he had the fun of spending the money.
    Hi,
Well, if he had a pc, internet, printer and lived with me I guess he could ;)
It's a very long process as I have to type the letter then wait for him to visit to sign it.
He didnt have any fun spending it either unfortunately as the overdrawn thingy, which caused the charges to be added, were caused by them charging in the first place.....he was never overdrawn till they made a charge, if you know what I mean, then it just snowballed.
    ;) debt free...yippee

Hi, I just wonder if someone could give me some advice on my claim. I've just sent off my spread sheets today as originally, I'd only sent off the statements with the charges highlighted! This was last Wed. and HSBC replied by Sat. asking for the charges to be put in a spreadsheet format. I was fairly impressed by their quick response although I don't suppose it will be once they receive them! Anyway, they have asked me to mark down on the sreadsheets; date, amount, description of charge and total. On my statements, ALL of my charges are marked on my statements as either CHARGES or TOTAL CHARGES. There isn't anything to say specifically what they are for. And I didn't want to just guess. Any advice?

  • Hi, new to reclaiming bank charges so excuse the dim questions, but would be really grateful for a reply.

I live in Manchester but my branch is in Liverpool is it better to send the first letter there or to my local branch in Manchester?

My account is with HSBC whom I also have a credit card with, to claim the credit card fees who do I send the letter to? my branch or somewhere else.

Thanks for looking at my post

so the first batch arrived today! it was a lot, about 150 sheets. the thing is, what do i look for on the statement to find a charge? is there a code. some of the statements are duplicates and some aren't some don't show what year it is.

some of the ones that do show a year say 2002, does this mean the rest are and also does this mean they have sent me just one year so far??

it's gonna take ages to get through them!!!!
  • hi all

im overdrawn most months (i may have a month each year when im not overdrawn, more by luck than owt else) and most months its my fault, to an extent.

my bank (hsbc) adds my charges to my account near the end of every month, usually 5-10 days before my wages go in and there fore are setting me up to pay larger charges the following month.
even thoyugh i get in this mess in the fisrt place by not budgetring properly can i still claim these charges?

when im overdrawnn it is normally by around 50-100 per month. add the charges to this and it doubles what im overdrawn by.

25th nov i was 100 overdrawn and the added 118.?? charges putting me over by over £200 is this a fair charge? and can i claim these types of charges back?

  • yes you can claim these charges back for the last 6 years - just open a parachute account with another bank first

    Good luck! :)
  • parachute account?

is this a new account? if so ys it called a parachute account?
and i find it hard opening an new account as most banks ive been to want photo id and i dont have any and cant afford any. can i open one even if i have a loan (over £6000) with hsbc?

a parachute account ( a new account with another bank)is needed "incase" your bank decides to close down your account after you have reclaimed any unfair bank charges from then . It is only a precauitonary measure . You obviously have an agreement on monthly payments for your existing loan from hsbc ,so , an educated guess will say that they will leave your account open ( ? ) until the loan is cleared .
